When the trail gets hairier than a gorilla's back, the Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX Men's Hiking Shoe rolls through without even noticing the gnar. It sports the same rugged construction as the standard X Ultra 2—a non-marking Contagrip sole, foot-hugging Quicklace system, and Salomon's supportive Advanced Chassis—but with the added protection of a Gore-Tex Performance Comfort waterproof and breathable membrane. You can splash through puddles and conquer muddy trails without worrying that your feet will get soaked, and you still have the comfort of the X Ultra's Ortholite sockliner and cushy EVA midsole protecting your foot from rough and technical terrain. Salomon also included an EVA footbed and molded shank for extra comfort and protection, along with foot-supporting Sensifit construction for a snug, comfortable fit that will have you moving like a magician when things get challenging.

Awesome Versatile Shoes

Love these shoes! A couple of the pluses:
- The quicklaces are great! I can get pretty lazy with tying my shoes and the quicklace system is great! Can leave them loose and wear the shoes as slip-ons for casual use, yet cinch them up as tight as needed when getting out in the mountains.
- GTX : these are super waterproof as you would expect of a gore-tex shoe. Have worn these (with gaiters) in calf deep powder and my snow shoes and my feet stayed totally dry. These are not super insulated, but with a good pair of socks and dry feet, my toes never felt cold.
- Style: these are good looking shoes and I get plenty of compliments on them
- Lightweight: for all their ability, these don't weight much at all. Can wear them all day at work or on the trail with little to no fatigue

I have owned eight pair of Salomon running shoes over the last few years and have not found another brand to fit so well. I have tried on other brands just for a change but always end up buying Salomon.

Love this shoe. Fits great and very comfortable as is true with most Salomon shoes. My only hesitation is in the lacing system. This is my first pair with the Quicklace system and I don't know how it will hold up. Time will tell.
