Ankle hurt after 3 day Hike

After wearing the boots for the first time my ankle began to hurt. I'l be giving them one more chance. We hiked 6 or 7 miles steep grade and they were initially comfortable. After a while my right ankle on the outside of my foot began to rub or jam against the boot in away that I could not take a step without excrutiating pain. Oddly enough my left ankle is my bad one and was fine. My right ankle has never been sprained and I'm 22 years old in good physical condition. After I took off the boots on the last day and returned to my other shoes I felt fine, but I was able to press in the same spot where the rubbing occurred to get the same pain
