Finally, a pair of running pants that avoid the tight package-bulge.

The Salomon Men's Trail Runner Warm Pant has all the qualities you'd expect out of top-quality running tights with an exception to the next-to-skin fit. Its ActiTherm fabric feels soft next to your skin and provides all the warmth you need for cold mornings. An active fit pulls the pant close to your body without restricting your mobility or outlining every detail of your package. Waist adjustments let you cinch the waist down, and reflective branding on the front and back keep you visible to oncoming traffic in the middle of the night.

  • ActiTherm French Terry fabric
  • Relaxed active fit
  • Waist adjustment
  • Two hand pockets
  • Reflective branding front and back

Just right

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'11"
    Weight: 155 lbs
    Size Purchased: Small

Nothing fancy about these pants, but they get everything just right. They're not too tight (not tights!), and they're not too loose (extra material flapping around). They're not windproof, so not amazingly warm, but conversely they are obviously much more breathable and stretchy than any windproof running pants. I wore them yesterday when temperature was 20 F, and they were fine. Any colder, and I might have opted to wear another layer underneath.

In casual pants I usually wear a 31" waist, 32" inseam, and the 'Small' size worked great: lots of stretch in the waist, and good length, with room to layer underneath. If you're in doubt between two sizes, I'd suggest you opt for the smaller size.

Any ideas how cold these are designed for? Looking for something for single digits/teens.

Best Answer

I would say they are best for 30-40 degrees. I would add another layer for anything colder.

Depends on how fast you run and consequently how much heat you generate! But speaking personally, I'd add another layer underneath when the temps drop below 20 F, or maybe 30 F if it's very windy.

Just the right fit

As the product description states, these are close fitting but without the tightness. The tapered ankles do an excellent job of keeping the wind from blowing up the pant (an issue I had with another manufacturers pant). The zippered pockets are great for carrying a key or an ID. I wore these on a run this morning in 38 deg weather and they were perfect. Very satisfied.
