Lace up Salomon's Trail Runner SW Shoes and glide across mountain paths or desert mesas without sacrificing the comfort of your bathroom slippers. Salomon's cushioning system with pronation control absorbs the challenging shocks that terra firma plants in your way. The Trail Runner SW Shoe's Sensifit lateral wrapping design saves ankles from unexpected tweaks and rolls. Salomon's sturdy Running Contagrip makes wearing through your trail shoe's sole within a season an unlikely occurrence.

Bottom Line: The Salomon Men's Trail Runner SW cushions your dogs like a living room couch.

Trail shoes tend to be very stiff with a protective layer for obstructions on the trails. I've used my trail shoes to run on the road from time to time and it becomes hard to land softly, especially if you run fast. The stiff sole forces your foot to almost "slap" the hard surface, causing more stress on your lower legs. If you are running exclusively on pavement/concrete go with a road specific shoe. If you are using them only occasionally on the hard surfaces then they will probably work.

These are great shoes, as evident in the details. They have a wide, low volume forefoot that really cradles your foot. The lacing system surrounds the whole foot really nicely. The foresole is wider than the the forefoot on the shoe which makes these super stable, especially around corners. The yellow in the picture is actually a warm gold color; these are really sharp looking shoes and they feel great. The rubber is super sticky and bomber. If you're looking for a solid, stable, low profile trail shoe, these are it.

A few questions... Are the soles of these shoes as ridged as the XA Comps? If going through rivers and streams, would the water flush out or be trapped in the shoe? I'm looking for a great pair of trail running shoes for Ultralight backpacking.

The soles have a very similar rigidity as the XA Comps. These shoes breathe well and keep debris out fairly well but they don't flush water that well. If you hike or run through a stream the bulk of the water will flush out but you'll definitely have some leftover in the bottoms of your shoes....Hope that helps.
