Here's what others have to say...

I have a wide foot and am having trouble finding boots comfortable. Will these boots work for a wide width?

I have wide feet too and these boots fit me really well. I'm a size 9-9.5 in boots and ordered the Toundras in 9 based on the other reviews. With heavy mountaineering socks it's a little tight slipping my foot through the ankle section but the toe box is quite roomy. Absolutely zero "squishing/folding inward" feeling, and I have room to freely wiggle my toes without the rest of my foot slipping around. If I wanted to wear two pairs of mountaineering socks I might size up to a 9.5.

durable & warm

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

Used this for everything from snowshoeing to mucking about in cold spring floods - no leaks as of yet. Salomon has the only boots I've tried that last more than 2 years in an area with serious winters (150+" of snow). A significant number of people also complimented the looks of these boots (black & white). The white upper does get rather dirty, however.

Pretty good!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs large
  • Height: 5'2"

Wore these hiking in about 2 1/2 feet of snow, lots of post-holing for about 5miles, walking on a roadway for the last 2.mi that was covered with packed down snow and ice. I didn?t expect that much post-holing so I left my gaiters off for a bit. Snow and chunks of ice got into the boot as the tongue does not stay flush against the leg regardless of how tight you secure the laces. This of course melted and got my socks wet. Despite this however, my feet remained warm. Once I put the gaiters on I didn?t have any further issue of water leaking in or snow leaking in. They did well over the icy patches except when in spots of sheer icy inclines.
These do run a little big. I usually wear a 7 or 7 1/2 in a boot for hiking, purchased these in a size 7 and there was room for a thick sock and room if my foot were to swell.

size runs big

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs large

I usually wear a 7.5 dress shoe and 8.5 running shoes. For these boots a size 7 fit well with plenty of toe room. I love these boots, snow does not drift inside and my feet felt very warm after long hikes.

Unanswered Question

What kind of crampons are compatible with this shoe?

Great buy!

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

First time I ever purchased this brand. What first caught my eye was how nice they looked. Now that I've used them, they are very warm, comfortable and def a great investment on my part. At first I thought they might be too small on one foot but when I got out In the snow, they actually fit perfect. I would absolutely buy this brand again.

According to the Solomon website, my measurement is a 9.6 inches which they say is a size 7. I normally wear a size 8 and thick wool socks. Do most people wear 1 size smaller in their boots?

Salomon winter boots do tend to run a little big in my experience but I would recommend a half size rather than a full size down. Everyone I have talked to has found a good fit with a half size smaller than their typical boot size.

Can I find these boots in a store? I'd like to look at them and try them on before I purchase them.

I think you could find your local dealers using this tool and then maybe give them a call to see if they carry this model in your size:

Love these boots!

I have a very hard foot to fit, each winter I spend an enormous amount of time trying to get something I can live with. These boots have fit the bill and than some. I spend alot of time hiking in the White Mountains of NH and need something that can keep me warm in some pretty nasty conditions. They have kept my feet warm in temps down to -25 degrees without a problem. I have used them with snowshoes, microspikes, and crampons all without fail. There was no break in period, first hike was 8 miles, no blisters. The only complaints I have are that they take too long to dry out usually about 2-3 days, I don't like the fuzzy collar, and with the amount of hiking I do, they are pretty stinky by the end of the season. Regardless of those factors I will certainly buy another pair for next season. My wife also loves hers and I have recommended them to my brother and other gal pals I know. Would love a different color and extra insoles. Thanks for making my winter nice and safe with toasty toes.

I have the same boots and mine also get damp by the end of a hike. When I am done for the day I take the insoles out of the footbed and stand them up inside the vertical part of the boot to dry faster. If you leave insoles in they won't dry properly.

    Nice and warm

As I already own a pair of these boots which are now about 8 years old, I thought it prudent to buy the successor, they look similar although they forgot the fuzzy lining throughout the whole boot on this newer model. Awesome boots for snowshoeing or if you have to stand around in the cold. They have a large enough toe box,( a great feature of Solomon) and are roomy enough to wear the nice thick wool socks. Really comfortable and stylish...although a young child did think I was a penguin.

I would have give 4.5 stars, the boot has kept my toes warm without cooking them, I've worn them in 0-30 deg temps in snow with medium weight sock. The -1/2 star comes from the too large toe box. I have wide feet and normally require a toe box with some depth, I'm swimming in these boots.
