Designed for folks who take a more athletic approach to hiking, the Salomon Synapse Hiking Shoe incorporates Salomon's Natural Motion design, which moves more naturally with your foot for increased comfort and performance. Rather than stuffing your foot into a design that holds back your anatomical mechanics, the springy midsole material and unique sole shape allow your foot to naturally roll through each stride so you glide over rough terrain quickly and efficiently. The design also incorporates Salomon's EndoFit sleeve system to eliminate irritation and hot spots caused by exposed laces. SensiFit cradles your foot for a precise fit, and a molded EVA midsole provides support and absorbs shock.

Closure is taken care of by Salomon's QuickLace system, which allows precise adjustment with one hand. A lace pocket keeps your laces from hanging out where they can snag trail debris and trip you up. A protective rubber toe cap protects your toes from the inevitable stub. Salomon finished the shoe with its sticky ContaGrip rubber outsole and offset Dynamic Traction lug pattern to provide traction in varied terrain conditions. Light, breathable, and cushioned for comfort, the Synapse Shoe will quickly replace that heavy hiker you've been using to punish yourself all these years.

One year and one pair of shoes!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

My wife and I are currently traveling for a year around the world. To keep our loads light we decided on only taking one pair of shoes each. The Synapse turned out to be the best possible choice.

I decided against waterproof as they'd get too funky too fast. I was against many trail runners because the tread would wear too fast during much pavement pounding in cities. And road runners wouldn't do for the hiking (and occasional trail running) we would get to.

Then I found a solid review of these in a magazine, found them on sale here and snatched them up. We're almost 8-months through our trip and I'm still happy with my choice.

They were comfortable from the get go and I've never had a hot spot. They've been through all kinds of conditions and have yet to get funky. The tread is only now starting to show some signs of wear (after nearly continuous use). Super comfortable during long days hiking and they dry fast when they do get wet.

Just to give you a taste of how much I've tested them, we did over 154 miles trekking in the Annapurna Himalayan Range and they rocked through mud, dirt and snow. I also managed several miles of trail running in Scotland once and they were great. Now they're my gym shoe in Thailand as I try to put weight on again.

Highly recommended for an all-around travel and hiking shoe. OneWorldOneYear dot com.
