With its full wood core and quadruple-threat of reinforcement technologies, the Salomon Suspect is made to take the daily beating required of Sammy Carlson's personal park destroyer. If the abuse you dish out to your skis rises to near-sadistic levels, look no further.
Sandwich sidewall construction for edge hold and durability
Wider edge profile for shock absorption and durability
Total Edge Reinforcement adds a layer of fiberglass on top of the edges for durability
Well if you buy them from backcountry and you break your skis and send them back they give you your money back in store credit..they have a pretty kick-ass return policy here
All skis are taking a bigger beating than we put on them 20 years ago. We're jumping higher and taking these things to rails. 100% of the time, a ski will eventually fail against rails. The rail will never fail, not one time ever.
So, to answer you question. As we've gotten harder on skis, all companies have been trying to make their skis stronger. I think the products all of these companies are producing today are way better than that of the past. It more comes down to realistic expectations, are any skis going to last for the type of skiing you'll do.
I have these in the 183 with a FKS 18 on it and they are my second favorite ski for the east. The first would be a carving ski which isn't the same category. These are stiff enough carve up an icy halfpipe wall, carve like a maniac on your way down a blue ice slope, but still playful enough you can pop off anything and land squarely with out issue.
The pros that use this ski go with the Salomon STH 16. This would be the best choice, but if they are too much for your weight/ability, then you can always go down to the STH 12 or 14.

Took these to Squaw Valley last week. These skis took just about everything I threw at them. They are most definitely not just for the park but a great all mountain ski. Only when I pushed through the deep soft stuff off KT-22 did I find myself wanting for a fatter ski with greater float but that is not the ski's fault. They held an edge very well on-piste and were smooth and stable at speed. As for breaking them? Good luck. The top sheet will get scratched. Live with it. An unscratched ski only demonstrates a lack of use.

Hey! i have a problem. im 17, 5'7-5'8, fast speeds and an expert skier. i used to ski on racing skis but wanted to switch to twin tips. im considering either the dumonts or the salomon suspects. i do mainly downhill, pow, and go off the occasional jumps ahead. which one of the two should i choose? if you think these arent good for me, which one would you recommend? which size? thanks so much for your time and help :)
Hey I have heard that these skis edges rip out pretty easily and I was wondering if salomon made these edges more durable? I was also wondering on how this ski compares to the ar7?
I had a pair of 2010 Suspects for the entire season and surprisingly compared every other pair of my mates skis the Suspects' base was by far the strongest and the edges held up for 80+ days on the hill and they were tuned regularly. I was a bit worried buying this ski because of what I heard on the net about the edges ripping out etc but I had no problem with mine except for the fragile glossy top sheet. After a few scratches though you'll get over it.
The Salomon Suspects are the dopest ski I've ever had by a mile.
O really cause ive gone through four pairs of this ski in a year and i know another person who did as well. O they did not fix the edges either. its still my favorite ski but it doesnt hold up
To the answer below me. Salomon does have a great warrantee, but not for anything edge related. The edge armor actually caused my broken edges to pull the base away from the core after about 30 days of skiing. I did love these skis before this incident, and hopefully salomon has fixed the issue, but suspects ended up being a $400 urban ski because of this problem.
Can the edges rip out, yes. Do they happen often, no. As skiing has evolved, we're starting to hammer our gear way more than in the past. With that being said, it has become harder to create a ski that can withstand impact with rails. With that being said, expectations of products still remain high without the realistic understanding of what is truly happening.
Salomon still makes a rad product and a solid warranty, with, in general, an edge ripping out should be covered under warranty.
