The slot canyons of southern Utah can be harsh and unforgiving, so step into the Salomon Men's Sport Amphibian Shoe and take a stand. River guides, kayakers, and canyoneers rely on the drainage portals and mesh uppers to dump water and dry quickly. Custom heel-fit and lacing systems ensure a secure fit whether you are barefooted or wearing neoprene booties; and Contagrip soles keep your feet underneath you while walking on wet surfaces.

Bottom Line: When you need more protection than a sport sandal can offer, wear the Salomon Men's Sport Amphibian Shoe.

Ditch your old landlubber shoes and give these guys a shot next time you're out on the water. The treads offer solid grip, the open mesh allows them to drain and dry fast, and the collapsible heel makes them easy to slip on for walking around camp. Trust me, you'll appreciate that when nature calls in the middle of the night.

Narrow

By:
March 11, 2009

I don't consider my feet wide but I thought these were pretty narrow shoes. My heel hung off the inside of the footbed a little and I wasnt crazy about that so I returned mine for some chacos. I think they would have been pretty good otherwise.

What is the best way to clean these shoes after wearing them in the river?

I haven't run these through the river yet, but I always cleaned my Tech Amphibs by dousing them with luke warm water in the shower after loose sand was dumped out and and mud or grass was brushed off. Nikwax makes a sandal wash that works well. always let them air dry in the sun to prevent mold and mildew. You can also wash them on the gentle cycle with a mild detergent.

Looks good, but feels bad!

By:
May 8, 2008

The shoe itself is cool looking, but the fit for me was horrible. The shoe is very narrow so if you have wide feet find another shoe. The shoe also ran a half size small. I'm usually a 10.5 but I purchased the 11 because it was in stock and it was still ran a little small.

How close to size do sport amphibians run? Techamphibians at 8.5 fit. These the same?

I'm a size 12 in all other shoes and size 12 Tech Amphibs were a bit too big. I ordered 11.5 Sport Amphibs - since that's as big as I could get off SAC - and they fit perfectly. as rumored, they do run a bit more narrow than most shoes [and the Tech Amphibs] but they fit really well and are stable and extremely light.

These are a nice watershoe.
The soles are much more like their boots.
I miss the angled heels.

The sole lugs provide good support for both pronation & supernation. This together with a good insole would offer you the best foot support.

Versatile Water Shoe

By:
September 25, 2008

As water shoes, these work great. They drain and dry well, and give good traction, and maintain comfort when wet. Good toe-protection against stumbling over sharp underwater rocks. Nice adjustability with the heal strap and lace-pull system. The collapsible heal allows them to double nicely as camp shoes. The mesh does let in sand and small pebbles easier than it lets them out. I was deciding between these and the Tech Amphibians, and went with these because they felt like they offered more lateral support. However, they are narrower shoes, especially in the toe box area. As a somewhat wide-footed person, I decided to size up a half-size in trade for what felt like better stability to me. The fit felt good enough for what I'd be wearing them for - stream crossings, rafting, and kayaking.

I bought these shoes 2 days before hiking to Tiltill Valley in Yosemite. I knew there would be a stream crossing and a soggy meadow crossing that I didn't want to do in my sandals. As it turned out, it rained for 36 hours straight, and the the end of the 2nd day, my hiking boots were so wet and heavy, I dread the idea of walking 9 miles back to the trailhead in them. I decided to give it a go in the Salomon's. I walked the first mile (stream crossing, trail, ankle deep water in the meadow) in them barefoot, with a 40 lb pack, then put on my liners and a double pair of merino hiking socks. The trail was pretty well maintained, only rocky in parts. My feet were completely fine for the first 5 miles, until the trail got too rocky and the soles were not protecting the bottom of my feet enough. These are water shoes, not like hikers, but in a pinch they performed beyond what I could have expected, and saved my weekend.

I've also been wearing them as work-out shoes since they obviously breathe well.

All-around, some versatile footwear.

Great 4 Lake/River

By:

Great shoe. They do run a bit smaller than the normal shoe, but I think they designed it that way so your foot doesn't slide around the shoe when it gets wet. Overall, it's a great shoe. Just realize before buying they do run about a half size small.

Amazing shoe

By:
May 21, 2008

I am very happy with this shoe. I loved the previous year's model and could not imagine how Salomon would improve on it, but they have. The collapsible heal is a tad sturdier and the lace system more secure. They've done away with the water drainage grooves but it is still airy and appears to be handling water well. I've enjoyed these shoes so far.
