Salomon Cushioning System features several layers of supportive and comfortable EVA foam, which gives you a sweet ride over rugged terrain
Contragrip rubber outsole features aggressive tread to grip the mud and snow while you reach deep for your next burst of energy
Quicklace system tightens in one pull, wrapping the Sensifit upper all the way around your foot for a precise and predictable fit
The dual-density EVA midsole features Pronation Control to make sure you don’t develop bad running habits that could damage your feet and back
Molded Ortholite foam footbed cradles the contours of your foot and remains dry as you sprint through the fall-colored woods
Gusseted mesh tongue prevents debris from getting inside and slowing you down
Synthetic toe cap prevents wear from kicking rocks and stumps
Bottom Line: Waterproof race shoe with the grip to tackle the hardest mountain trails.
I absolutely love mine. When i first got them I could not get over how light and comfy they were. I recommended them to my co-worker as well and they agree with me that these are the most comfy, trail runners we've ever worn. I've used these for running, hiking, worn to the gym, for everyday use, ect. and they've always performed and remained comfy and dry in all conditions. I highly recommend these and suggest prying the purse strings a part for the Gore-Tex versions if you do any amount of off road trails when there's a chance of mud/ water. My only caveat would be that the grippy nubs on the soles wear kinda quick if used daily.
after owning the previous years model there was no doubt in my mind I must have a second pair. I traveled out of country to very rough terrain on 2 occasions last year....my Salomon SpeedCross' were amazing. The only issue I read before purchasing warned against water getting in....that while they keep your feet dry...if you find yourself in a flood and the only way to travel is up a 60% incline irrigation line you just may have some wet feet and the water stays in the shoe. Good news...the next morning they were dry. But now I have 2 pair and will ensure I always have a dry pair. Great Shoe!
Pic is only one i could find from previous trip showing the shoe...
According to their website, http://www.salomon.com/us/product/speedcross-2-gtxa.html#bas, they are available in 7 and 7.5 US - haven't been able to find that size online, however.

bought a black pair of these for the slush, and for the slush they do perform. the first occurrence was a saturated tunnel. an inch or two. met everyone on the way back, and they all had wet feet. not i. the second time that called for the gtx, a pre-winter whiteout, nine inches or so. nothing got in. the only time my feet got wet was when it downpoured. now for some suggestions. if you plan on running in the summer or hotter climes, your feet may be a little clammy. this is normal because of the waterproofing (even though gtx has good vapor transference) but its just a little warm in those temps. also, if you run on a lot of roads as well, you might want to look elsewhere for a different tread design. these don't have that thick of rubber besides the triangles, and mine wore pretty quick on the outside heels. i think if you primarily did trails, the wear would be more even (this would also depend on your stride). now its eating into the foam after about 300 miles. shoes should last at least around 700. also, i read on some of the other models that people were having problems with the quick-lace system. i've had no such problems.
i've put some substantial miles on these shoes and they still perform well. My second run in them was about 11 miles without any problems. They are quite waterproof but some water is able to very slowly leak through when they are submerged. The lacing system works great, the footing is secure, and the tread lasts a while . I wear smartwool mini socks and have been comfortable from snow to 90 degree weather.
I have several Nike's. mostly 10.5 but i went down to a 10 with the Salomon's for a thinner sock and a more snug fit. Didn't want any play in the shoe. It works great for me.
Just finished a 20 mile trail run in 5" of snow. These shoes along with gators kept my feet dry! They are a great shoe and i highly reccomend them to anyone. They are light and very comfortable and will be the only shoe I will purchase in the future!
Great shoe. My fiance loves them. However these were a Christmas present and he just called me today to say that the part that holds the shoe lace on one of the shoes broke already. However, I have had EXCELLENT customer service and was told that all I had to do is send the shoes in and they will send me a new pair. Love Backcountry.com! :)
I heard that the traction on roads and pavements weren't that great. I beg to differ.
After having 6inchs of snow in London followed by rain and more rain the grip and and traction I got from these bad-boys was amazing. On top of that, after hours of walking and running in one setting my feet were still dry and comfortable. The pleasure I've I have wearing my new pair of Salomon SpeedCross 2 GTX Trail Running Shoe I don't think can be matched. I think everyone should own a pair as there are as good as the normal everyday trainer, and fit for all the running and scrambling you what to put them through.
like other reviews say a race shoe built for the trail. That being said they are narrow and fitted. I think they ride quite high making them feel a little unstable for running. It may seem as im bashing these shoes but i think they are great just not for running i aboslutely love the salomon speed lace and the grip with this tread is unparralled. these make great light weight hiker if you don't need the anckle support of a boot. All in all a kick a$$ shoe thats super waterproof and sticks like glue to the the dirt.
I absolutely love mine. When i first got them I could not get over how light and comfy they were. I recommended them to my co-worker as well and they agree more...
