Are these bindings good for beginner level skate skier? She has an old-fashion profil boots (not pilot).

Responded on

Though they may technically work, these are not skate bindings. The big difference is in the flex of the bumper (these are way too soft). Salomon still makes a Profil skate binding: the Profil Plus. If she is at all serious about skating, it's best to trade up to the Pilot boots/binding.

I have SNS Pilot boots--will the boots work in the SNS Profil bindings? What about Profil boots in Pilot bindings?

Responded on

Pilot boots should work in Profil bindings. The Pilot boots have two bars: one in the front and one slightly behind - about 2 inches - the front bar. If you look at the Profil bindings, there is a lateral space in the binding about 2 inches behind the front notch where the boot latches in. The second bar in the Pilot boot will slide in and out of that space. In Pilot bindings, the second bar latches into a device that moves up with the boot, and then pulls the boot back into the binding. This mechanism is absent in the Profil binding, but the space is present in the Profil binding to accomodate the bar nevertheless.

Great binding. Easy to get in and out of. Only difficulty was getting someone to mount them. The template is very hard to find. With the elusive template, no problem.

I have a pair of these bindings that are about 7 years old. I don't get to use them very often, but in the past few days the snow has been great and I've wanted to ski. But I'm having real difficulty with getting the boot into the binding. It takes many many trials and sometimes-- but it seems only by luck -- they work. It's extremely frustrating. In the past, i've had no trouble. is it me, or is it the bindings?

My circa-1980s skis have 3-pin bindings. Can they be converted to SNS Profil use? This is for easy occasional use only.

Responded on

Sure thing. However, I would make sure to take them into a ski shop where they have all of the right tools and know-how. Most XC-ski shops will only charge about 10$ for a mounting fee. The new boots and bindings are so much nicer than the 3-pin stuff, but the initial investment to new boots and bindings can sometimes be a little pricy.

Will this binding work for a Fischer SNS boot, size 44 ?

Responded on

In short yes. The thing to look for on the boot is a single bar that locks on to the binding near the front of the boot. The other type of Salomon binding is called the SNS Pilot and has two attachment points instead of just one.

I want to put bindings on my snowshoes. Is that possible? The strap-in method that showshoes have just never stays tight (especially if you try to run) and I want to be able to clip in and go, but I know nothing about skis or bindings. Could I rig a ski binding onto a snowshoe?
