Description

Be a winner, not a flightless bird.

While the other guys are flapping around like confused penguins on an icy hill, you'll be laughing your way to victory with the SNS Pilot Sport Classic Binding. Salomon's Pilot system features dual-axis technology, with one rigid-link axle under the toe and one under the forefoot to keep the ski glued to your foot, providing increased control and power transmission while eliminating the flap that can come with traditional, single-pivot bindings. The pivot points have been set slightly rearward for increased natural forefoot roll and power transmission, while the Pilot Sport also has a full-length guide ridge that aligns with grooves in SNS-compatibile boots to provide stability during the glide. Figure in the automatic step-in/out system, and it's easy to imagine taking your spot on the podium while everyone else is still sprawled at the finish dripping snot onto themselves.

  • Dual-axle pivot system
  • Full-length guide ridge
  • Automatic step-in/out
  • Compatible with all Salomon/Atomic SNS boots

Bad bindings when breaking trail

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These bindings are intended for use on freshly groomed trails. When breaking trail ice will build up under the forefoot axis, preventing your foot from making full contact with the ski. This causes your foot to bend unnaturally around your forefoot. It can be painful, and threatens the integrity of the boot and binding. Today I had to stop every 200-300 m to take the ski off and clear out the ice. Terrible product if you plan to explore anything except freshly groomed trails. I've used the product for two years - it's an unreliable gimmick. I wish i could remove it.

Control yourself!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I remember the days not so long ago when the bindings had the pivot point out in front of your toes, to create a really un-natural feeling that was hard to walk in and control.

Fast forward about 18 years, and Salomon updates their already excellent Profil binding system to the Pilot with dual-axis pivot system.
The Pilots really do help keep your skis under control. The first bar is placed underneath your toes, so you can roll up on the balls of your feet to propel yourself, giving you a much more similar motion to walking naturally.
The second bar sits a few inches back from the front axis and really helps stabilize the ski. It adds a lot of lateral stability as well has pulls your heel back down to give a little extra spring while walking forward.

When I feel the need for speed, these bindings will even allow you to get on the edges of your classic skis and skate for a little bit.

If you're looking for a big upgrade from the pair of skis you've had in your closet for the past decade, look no further! These SNS Pilot bindings will take you further than you've ever gone!
