Wrap it up.

If you've seen the man-sized urban drops and pucker-inducing backcountry booters Bode Merrill sends, then it should come as no surprise that he demands the best from his boots. He relies on the Salomon Men's F4.0 Snowboard Boot to meet his hard-charging needs. A stiff flex, lightweight and low-profile desig, and killer fit offer the response and support he wants for serious shredding, along with the comfort he needs for multi-day backcountry missions and all-nighters in the streets.

The first thing you'll notice on the F4.0 is a closure system unlike any other. The WrapLock system features three power panels on the outside of the boot that are fused with the liner so that the entire boot forms around your foot with a single pull of the lace. Speaking of the liner, the Fusion Exhale liner has mesh channels and one-way valves that allow vapor to escape from the inside of your boot without letting moisture in so your feet stay dry. It also features an Easy In patch that allows you to smoothly slide your foot in and out, as well as a Heel Grip patch that grips your sock for better heel hold.

The Hi Flight outsole features exclusive RPU back pads for improved flex and grip, not to mention a thinner profile and reduced weight. Air bags in the heel take the sting out of harsh impacts and absorb vibrations for a smoother ride. The Mystic 3 footbed is based on reflexology, which promotes blood circulation to keep your feet warm and prevent fatigue, plus it has an anti-microbial treatment to help fight foot funk.

Good boot, not durable

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Been a big fan of Salomon's F-series boots for a while now. I've been riding these boots for the past two seasons and have loved them while riding. Great fit and very comfortable.
However, the lacing system wears out extremely quickly. After around 40 days of riding, I've had the single lace rip while tightening the boot regularly. I rigged a replacement using a Burton quicklace, and had the other boot's lace rip around 10 days later. Got a new pair the following season under Salomon's warranty program and happened again. You'd think a $400 boot would last a full season of riding.
