If you've seen the man-sized urban drops and pucker-inducing backcountry booters Bode Merrill sends, then it should come as no surprise that he demands the best from his boots. He relies on the Salomon Men's F4.0 Snowboard Boot to meet his hard-charging needs. A stiff flex, lightweight and low-profile design, and killer fit offer the response and support he wants for serious shredding, along with the comfort he needs for multi-day backcountry missions and all-nighters in the streets.

The first thing you'll notice on the F4.0 is a closure system unlike any other. The WrapLock system features three power panels on the outside of the boot that are fused with the liner so that the entire boot forms around your foot with a single pull of the lace. Speaking of the liner, the Fusion Exhale liner has mesh channels and one-way valves that allow vapor to escape from the inside of your boot without letting moisture in so your feet stay dry. It also features an Easy In patch that allows you to smoothly slide your foot in and out, as well as a Heel Grip patch that grips your sock for better heel hold.

New this season to the F4.0 is the Hi Flight outsole, featuring exclusive RPU back pads for improved flex and grip, not to mention a thinner profile and reduced weight. Air bags in the heel take the sting out of harsh impacts and absorb vibrations for a smoother ride. The Mystic 3 footbed is based on reflexology, which promotes blood circulation to keep your feet warm and prevent fatigue, plus it has an anti-microbial treatment to help fight foot funk.

great boot but starting to fall apart

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love the fit. I love the stiffness. I love the light weight. I do not love that they are starting to fall apart.

great boot but starting to fall apart

I am strongly considering these boots. How many days have you ridden them for them to start falling apart? Also how is the flex and flex retention?

Salomon F4.0

Love the boots! Really nice a stiff with great response. Heel hold is better than I hoped for and the boot is really comfortable right out of the box. Shipping was free and 2 days. I ordered my boots at 12:00 am mountain Thursday and received boots on Friday. Love backcountry.

Unprecedented Comfort and Control

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've always worn Burton and Nike boots thinking they were the industry standard for comfort. The Nikes always caused pressure points and I couldn't avoid heel lift in Burtons without j-bars or other remedial measures. I'm generally in my boots for 7 to 8 hours at a time. These Salomons have lived up to my highest expectations and then some! They are insanely comfortable and provide fantastic heel hold. I can't say that the little "cat tongue" insert at the heel is why (or whether its just a gimmick), but regardless I have nearly zero heel lift with these even with my narrow heels. My left foot measures 11.25 and my right 11 on brannocks at my local shops. Tried on a pair of 11s and they were perfect right away. I can *barely* feel the front of the liner on my right foot, so you may want to size down.

These are decently stiff, so they might not be best for a beginner or someone who spends their whole day in the park. But if you're an all-mountain rider, carver, or freerider, these couldn't be better!

I think the lacing system is incredible and much better than other speed lacing systems I've tried. You can control the lower and upper zones independently, and after a day on the mountain I could adjust them at the top of a run in less than 10 seconds each.

What boots? I can't feel them!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these boots a couple weeks ago from Backcountry (free 2 day shipping rules) and I am so happy I did. I have been snowboarding for....oh god this is my 20th season...gross I'm aging, and all 19 seasons before I have SUFFERED with foot pains. I love boarding though so wouldn't quit. I have had 32 boots, Vans, Salomon Malamute, and New Balances, all the same result. I've tried orthotics and no help. But this season I switched to Burton Diodes, and still had pain with my other boots. I went boarding yesterday with my new F4.0s and oh my god. Zero foot pain. Diodes and F4.0 saved my feet. Thousands of dollars later these are the best money I have spent. Save money now and buy these. And they are stiff, coming from a malamute user, these are pretty decent!
