Description

A form-fitting pack that practically melts away onto your back.

Salomon builds trail running gear with a masterful touch, and if the XT Skin Pro 3 Hydration Pack Set is any indication, Salomon's designers are getting better and better each season. Every feature, detail, and contour of this pack was designed with a runner in mind, from the quick-drying stretch material in the body panels to the underarm routing of the hydration tube. While the boxy shape of a traditional backpack might throw you off balance when you're running, the Skin Pro 3 features contoured shoulder straps that flow into a close-fitting back panel that complements your center of balance. A moderately sized back zipper panel features extendable storage for spare layers and an included hydration bladder and hose system makes it easy to get a drink without stopping. Your hand-held might do the trick in the city, but this pack serves as your lifeline when the trail turns rough and you have to carry a little more than the bare essentials.

  • High-denier face fabric makes this pack lightweight, quick-drying, and highly resistant to wear and tear
  • Elastic power mesh panels stretch for mobility and to ensure a perfect fit whether you're standing still or sprinting up a hill
  • Fabrics are PVC-free so you don't have to worry about harmful chemicals rubbing against your skin
  • P.A.C.E. Fit System relieves pressure on soft part of your upper body (around your stomach and internal organs), instead focusing its support at the upper part of your back and chest and closer to your center of gravity
  • Soft, Twinlink straps stretch across the chest and between the shoulder straps to keep the pack in place without restricting your freedom to breathe
  • Adjustable load lifters and shoulder straps allow you dial in the fit to match the dimensions of your shoulders and upper body
  • Main zipper compartment offers enough storage for an ultralight layer and when you need to stick an additional layer inside the compartment expands to accommodate the extra gear
  • Storage options include a safety pocket at the top of the back, two fixed chest pockets, and lateral storage that's easy to reach without taking the pack off
  • 4D Pole Holder gives you a secure way to attach your hiking poles to this pack when they're not of use
  • Included 1.5L hydration bladder slips into a dedicated pocket and drinking tube routing goes under your arm instead of over your shoulder
  • Bladder also features a bite valve with an on/off system so you won't loose precious ounces of hydration by mistake

The future is here and it rests on your back.

Positives: comfortable, doesn't bounce, and it is fairly adjustable.

Negatives: Those stupid little stretch pockets are hard to reach. Put them on the front of the pockets and this would be perfect!

Not much adjustment

I tried this out before I went to the 12 set and have to say the reason I went to the 12 set was because it has the ability to adjust and form fit a little better than this model. The 12 set also has more storage capcity and is a little smarter build. Other than that if you can make this one fit good this could be a good pack, but only 3L of storage. If you have the money I would suggest going with a 5 set or a 12 set for sure. Those have more storage capability and are more size specific (s/m-m/L) and adjustments. The hydration tubes on those also come with a tube neoprene sleeve to keep your water cool while it sits in the tube if your interested in keeping water cool.

Thanks Guy Geva..i was looking at Salomon xt skin 3 vs one of the Nathans..i like how it has insulation to keep drink cool...any recomendations.?

The bladder is insulated on this model. Keep in mind though it is not a cooler rather a thin layer of insulation. After about 2.5-4 hours (depending on ice or not) your beverage is going to be around room temp. I don't have this model, I tried it on at a running shop and thought it was ok, but I actually bought the Salomon 12 set which has the option of more storage and has more utility pockets wich I was after so I could take it on longer runs or overnights (only $30 more than this product from tradeinn.com). It has many more adjustments so if fits closer to your body with a much better fit. This one could work for you for shorter distances though if you can make it fit comfortably.

Perfect Trail Running Pack

Having tried about every trail running pack out there I have found one that is truly comfortable and doesn't bounce. I've used the pack for a couple of weeks on shorter trail runs (7-15 miles) and look forward to using it on longer runs. A combination of the cut of the pack and chest straps make this fit the curves of a women (I have a larger bust and wear either a small or med top). Although the pack has plenty of 'bells and whistles' it is a very simple pack which aids in this pack being very light. The side panels for the zippered pocket in the back are stretchy mesh allowing for plenty of room for your running fuel, light jacket and your phone if you are so inclined to take that. I would take a 1/2 star away for the pockets on the front for being too small, the zippered front pocket will hold your chapstick and a baggie of electrolytes, the small stretchy pocket is just a little too narrow but I'm able to put 1 gel in it. The fit and chest straps makeup for the shortcomings of this pack. Even my husband fell in love with it and got one.
