    One-eighth yeti, but mostly unicorn.

If the Salomon Women's QST Pro 90 Ski Boot had DNA, it would most likely contain fragments of unicorn and yeti genetics, as well as some high performance ski boot technologies scrambled in there. Unfortunately though, the QST Pro 90 is not endowed with genetic instructions, but when you slip it on, it sure as day feels like it was created in the image of your own foot.

The QST touts a forgiving and adaptive freeride design that caters to ladies who like to ski all over the mountain. More specifically, the QST is outfitted with a 360-degree Custom Shell and Custom Fit 3D Liner, which are both thermo-moldable to mimic the shape of your foot. Ultimately, these technologies prevent hot-spots and chafing that are often experienced when wearing an ill-fitting boot, meaning you can focus on form and fun, rather than your sloshy foot situation. Additionally, the women-specific cuff and liner offer a personalized fit, so you feel less like you're skiing in a pair of stilts, and more like you're having the time of your life on a powder day. The QST Pro 90 features a stiff-but-not-too-stiff 90 flex that's best suited for intermediate to experienced female skiers, while the last ranges from 100-106mm which makes it suitable for average sized to wide feet.

And should your adventure require a little extra wiggle room, the QST is equipped with a walk mode that offers 40-degrees of maneuverability, so you're able to bootpack comfortably or race your friends to the lift with ease. However, when it comes time to lock and load, the Surelock mechanism secures the boot's ski mode for dependable downhill performance. Meanwhile, the Twinframe² chassis is boosted to enhance steering, and the Oversized Pivot assures direct transmission for a better performance when paired with wide, freeride skis. Not to mention, the QST features Salomon's new Endofit tongue, which ensures an easy step-in, and the waterproof gusset prevents errant snow and moisture from saturating your socks and liner during those extra deep days.

    Great boots

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought this for my wife and so far she's liking the boots. She tried a few different brands and models before settling on the Salomon QST series.
On previous ski trips she had complained about pain in her calves after a day of skiing. She hasn't felt that same sensation since she got these boots.
There's a handy little switch on the back of the boots that puts them in a mode that increases the range of movement that the boots move in. My wife made a comment at how comfortable this made the boots to walk around in. There's quite a few adjustments on the boot to get the exact fit you want.
The boots have generous amount of padding on the tongue to protect the shin. My wife still opted to get a pair of socks with additional cushion in the shin area.
There was one instance when my wife had issues clicking into her bindings. I noticed that snow had packed on the bottom of the heel on her boot. I was about to chip off the packed ice but it just slid off. Other than that one time she's had no issues mounting her skis.
