Salomon Pro Combi Pilot Boot - 2008 BCS

Although I am new to both types of xc skiing (classic and skate) I found these boots to be a great investment! They provide what feels to be a stable and firm fit for skate, and when the cuff is removed there is flex in the boot for classic skiing. The cuff can prove to be difficult to remove and replace initially, however it gets easier with time. Just a note about sizing - you need a snug, but comfortable fit with these boots, and I had needed to go a full size down from my Salomon trail running shoe size to achieve this.

Overall, I recommend these boots to any newcomer to xc skiing who doesn't want the investment in 2 sets of boots, yet wants a combi boot that works very well for both classic and skate techniques.

my son (17) and I each own a pair of the combi pilot - and share a nice set of classic (waxless) and skate race skis. When we ski we just swap skis so we can practice and enjoy both styles. He had a pursuit race last week and used these boots. He was the only skier with just 1 pair of boots to manage - and they worked very well in both legs of the race.

I've never had a pair of boots that fit more comfortably. I've skied many years in heavy backcountry boots that slide around and blister my long skinny feet. These boots never blister even after wearing all day - and fit tightly enough for excellect control of the skis. I have tarsal tunnel syndrome and was afraid these boot would inflame that problem. But the strap that connects to the laces and wraps behind the heel allows excellect adjustment of the fit. All in all an excellent solution for performance, comfort and the best thing is you get to enjoy both styles of skiing with 1 pair of boots.

good stuff--cuff a bit tall for a short woman, but ok. ankle collar easy on & off, but the little tab to support the non-collared boot is rough!
nice to have combi options.
