The Origin Alpine Ski with Z10 ti Bindings offers Salomon's most high-tech features in a ski specifically designed for women. love love love. I'm a strong intermediate and they've been working beautifully for me- they're the only skis I use inbounds now. Like another reviewer, my skiing has actually improved. I usually ski in the Canadian Rockies, and they've been great on groomers, pow & crud. I took them out east and they handled the man-made icy stuff just fine. Big hearts for this ski.

I bought a previous years model. The previous ones I have are a partial wood core, these are a full wood core. They were great the firt 10 days then they got super soft! I have had alot of trouble with the bindings. The brakes fall off all the times, i have had the heel piece replaced. The toes wiggle around and i have been told from several people that thats how there intergrated binding system is.
They are really light and charge through crud and powder. Wouldn't buy them again for me, but they would be great for a teen or strong skier, not and agressive expert skier.
I am thinking of buying these skis for my wife but am unsure

Unless she prefers a really long ski (and knows it and has skied skis that were new within the past 3 years that were very long), I would recommend the 162cm (162 and 170 are the only ones in stock). It goes more by weight than height. Although she is very tall at 5'10", 145lbs isn't very heavy. I am 5'5" and last season i weighed 140-145. I only skied the 154cm because that was all we had at the shop, but I would have liked the try the 162cm (but we didn't have it). I loved the ski
Intermediate/expert isn't clear. Maybe you mean advanced? It is between intermediate and expert and it is what I am.
I would recommend the 162cm. I would only recommend the 170cm in this ski if she was very heavy or a very strong skier who doesn't like short skis, or a combination of the two.
I ski all different skis in different lengths. I ski longer skis and shorter skis. I can do this because I work at a demo center, but for buying a ski for everyday use, I would go on the shorter side, at least for this type of ski.
Very few women like long skis.
If you are concerned about the 170cm being too long for her, it probably is. Go with the 162cm. I see few women skiing on long skis (I live in the east, people probably ski longer (and wider) out west).
For me, I prefer the 154 length, even though i usually like a slightly longer ski (156-160). I am sure that at 5'10", your wife has longer legs than me and will be able to ski a longer ski at the same weight as me, so I would recommend the 162cm, but not the 170cm. (I know that I probably repeated the same thing over and over again).

I bought the 2008 model, which I understand is exactly the same except for topsheet design. I haven't experienced any of the problems noted in the previous review. I have read that the 2007 Origins was different from the 08 and 09, so perhaps that previous review referred to that year's model. In any case, I have been totally pleased with my Origins. The stability is incredible, turning is effortless, the ski does short quick turns and long turns equally well. The bindings seem great, no trouble at all there. I would definitely buy these again. I have seen them classified as advanced-expert, but that sure isn't me...I'm a strong mid-intermediate, and while I've had to pay a bit more attention to my technique, once I got used to these skis I've found them to be wonderful and I've improved greatly over the 20 or so times I've skied on them at this point. Highly recommended!

I love this ski. I am an advanced skier and demoed this at the end of last year and threw my other barely used barely used Salomon's away. These turn effortlessly and can withstand the crud as well as the groomers. The proof is in the riding...my husband swears that I have become a better skier since taking a couple of dozen turns in theses.
