Weighing in at less than five ounces, the Salomon Men's Light Short breaks the mold for ultralight trail running shorts. A touch of elastane gives this short a flexible stretch, and the short inseam allows you the mobility you need to lengthen your stride on the downhill and step high on the uphill. It doesn't get any more minimalist than the Light Short, and that's precisely what some runners love about it.

  • Active fit is close to the body without feeling tight
  • Actilite stretch woven material is extremely light and it encourages the movement of moisture away from your skin so you feel dry even if the heat makes you sweat
  • Two gel pockets give you limited storage for nutrition

The built-in liner is VERY breathable and even during my 50k, I didn't experience any chaffing. Amazing quality.

Race Shorts

I have a few pairs of Salomon shorts and though they are light and hold up well, I've never really "loved" any of them. Until now...

I had been looking for a light pair of shorts with a nice split-side, good storage, and short inseam. These hit the mark in all categories. The two mesh pockets hold plenty of nutrition. I've successfully put 5 gels in each, went for a run, and didn't lose any and it wasn't uncomfortable. The smaller pocket (it's on the right side behind the mesh pocket) is great for some Gin-Gins, salt pills or even your car keys.

The waist band is a bit interesting at first. I expected it to be more elastic, but it isn't really and I found myself synching the drawstring quite a bit. But it is comfortable.

I just raced my first 50k in these shorts and they were comfortable all day long and I didn't suffer any chaffing. They even shrugged off a pretty hard fall so I would say they are very durable. This is certainly one of the best shorts I have in my closet and I would highly suggest these to anyone.

The new Salomon waist band is not for me

So I really love Salomon products. I find most of their products to fit great and are functional at most levels. Recently Salomon has been working on redesigning their running apparel to incorporate compression into the legs large muscle groups. Along with that they have increased the waist bands to conform around the trunk. The idea is greater core stabilization. I love this in theory. Out on the trail though I rarely run without a shirt on in any weather about 38 degrees. I find the waist on these a little bit for lack of better words annoying. I guess I just have not gotten use to this waist, but I traditionally wear my shorts low rather than high and it is my personal preference that I don't have anything squeezing me just under my belly button. I just down feel free like I do with a traditional split short. So that is just my insight into this product. Though these shorts are well built and are very light I just can't do the higher waist band. I am sure these will work great for others who do not have a problem with this and or can overcome it.
