water hybrid shoe

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shoes are perfect for activities that involve water- much better than a teva sandal in my opinion because the shoe provides more stability. You can collapse the back as well and wear them as a slipper if needed.

The shoe also works great if you're going to a tropical climate and need to pack light- they'll function as a hybrid shoe to go hiking in and also get really wet in. Plus, it's a bit more ventilating than a regular shoe. Unless you're going to do some serious hiking...

My only gripe about the shoe is the back of the shoe can rub a bit.
Just like all other Salomon shoes I size a half size down in these shoes (I normally am a size 7 and wear these in a 6 1/2).

Saloman Amphib

LOVE these shoes! Perfect for kayaking/rafing where you need good footing in he water.

Careful thou they run BIG. I usually wear a 7.5, but foundthat 6.5 fits perfect sans socks.

Salomon Light Anphib 3

This shoes run bigger in size. Usually I wear a 9.5 but I guess I should have asked for a 9. They are just great:
Really light in weight,
Seem to dry pretty fast,
Feel confortable
Unfortunately I had to return them. So you better ask for size 0.5 smaller than your actual size.

Heads up

I had the Amphib 2 shoes in a size 7 and LOVED them, they wound up breaking, but was excited because of backcoutry's policy I ordered this new version in the same size as a replacement...and it was HUGE, so I have to return them again. I think it's because this version doesn't have the thing to pull in the back to tighten it. That's just something to keep in mind if you are upgrading from the 2's to the 3's.

I need a water aerobics shoes that actually laces up--that has a real tongue that moves, not one that's already sewn in. Some have laces but the tongue is sewn in and that makes them hard to get on. Do these have a real tongue and do they really lace up?

does these fit true to size?

Hey Sharon,

Salomon typically runs true to size unless you're purchasing a Gore-Tex version (they run a little smaller)

I wear the same size street shoe as I do in the Salomon amphibian shoes.

Hope this helps,

Hiking Buckskin Gulch/Paria Canyon and the Virgin Narrows soon and am having a hard time finding the right shoe. I'm guessing these would be too flimsy. Any feedback or suggestions?

These are more paddle/water oriented shoes, so you probably want something more for hiking. My favorite hiking shoes are the Salomon XAs. They're durable and have a Gore-Tex (waterproof) option. They're also the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

Should I wear socks with this shoe for white water rafting? I'm concerned about blisters

Responded on

Amphibious shoes are usually made to be worn without socks. Seams are smooth, padding in the right places, etc. I'd recommend wearing breaking them in with short walks, maybe trips to the store without socks so that your feet build up the tolerance in the right places before hand.

Hello Michele,

If you are concerned about blisters, that is usually caused by new shoes that your feet are used to. These shoes can be worn with socks, but if you're planning on getting your feet wet, don't wear socks.

Wear the shoes with socks for a few days before you go rafting and it should help the break in.

Hope this helps!
