Your mild-mannered demeanor at work hides the snarling, snow-loving beast that lurks within. When it's time to unleash the insatiable winter-sport savage, put on the Salomon Women's Foresight 3L Jacket. This big-mountain jacket craves endless winter and nonstop shots of powder, crud, or corn. Blow through blizzards like you hammer through your favorite sugar cereal the morning after a late night playing, um, trivia games ....
ClimaPro Storm 3-layer fabric and fully taped seams mean you get protection for when you're barely vertical atop a wind-scraped summit. Surviving a snow-squall is only half of the story; three-layer construction means this heavy shredding jacket breathes, letting your hot air escape without letting cold air in. You know hiking up to Baldy Chutes will generate some sweat, and unzipping the underarm vents in combination with the techy fabric removes enough excess heat and moisture so you're not standing on top of the world, a cold, slimy mess.
The removable powder skirt blocks snow and stays in the car when you don't need it, and the snap-in connection lets you hook this jacket up with Salomon ski pants, creating a quasi ski suit with a butt-saving snow barrier. Elastane cuffs with thumb loops help keep the sleeves down and pesky powder off your elbows and out of your gloves. If you prefer to pay someone for avalanche control work and you ski in-bounds, store your pass in the left arm pocket for season-long security. With the Foresight in your closet, the only reason to look at the weather is choose between UPF 10 and UPF 80 for your face.

Runs large

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

Unfortunately by the time I purchased this jacket, all the smalls were gone, which is almost always the size I wear. I decided to go with a medium for layering and it was huge. I'm 5'5" 130-ish. I still give it 4 stars for what looks like good quality and nice features; it just runs big.

AWESOME, but...

This jacket was awesome! But, unfortunately the neck line was very tight for me and I was not able to zip it up around my second layer and helmet strap. I ultimately had to return the jacket because I did not think it would be warm enough on days I wanted the collar zipped all the way up. I would also consider myself a very average build at 5'6" and 145 lbs (i.e. I do not have a huge neck)! I wish I could have kept it though, the colors are awesome!

Saw this jacket online about a month ago and knew I had to have it. Ordered it in the Amphib Green color which is an exact match to the picture. I had tried it on prior to ordering it and was just between the small and medium (compared to my other jackets, this ran slightly large - I'm about 5'3" and size 6-ish). I ended up with the medium as I wanted plenty of room to wear my micro-puff underneath for freezing days, but a small would have worked just fine. It's slightly larger in the shoulders, so if you want a more fitted look, size down.

I've skied in this a few days now, and am super happy with it so far. I love the high collar on the jacket so I can tuck my face into it on the lift and the hood fits well over my helmet. A really great shell so far!

    Day-to-Day Excellence

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Wore this jacket most days this season. It is storm, wind, snow strong- with the Clima Pro Storm material- and is truly burly in external forces. There is nice movement to this jacket with great features that include underarm zips, powder skirt, big pockets, and helmet sized hood. Built from strong material that will last. I'm a medium in most everything- 5'8- and found this jacket fits true to size.

    Salomon's Backcountry Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The denim color way is pretty cool. It's subtle and the white and coral-pink accents enhance the jacket. It was nice to have an outfit that pops color-wise while skiing but if I wore the jacket outside of skiing it was not an obnoxiously bright ski jacket.

The sizing is not dead on and I recommend sizing up- usually I'd wear a size small in other brands but in Salomon jackets I wear a size medium (for the purpose that the sleeves and length of jacket need to be long enough). However, in this jacket I wore a size large this past winter and I liked it better than the size medium which I normally wear in this jacket. The difference is that the large is a bit longer and I could fit more under layers underneath more comfortably (the cut is pretty boxy/short on this jacket). For reference I'm 5'5" and wear 26 size jeans. If you like a boxy, traditional cut better then don't size up like I did.

The material on this jacket is mostly durable for long days in the backcountry, it held up pretty well for me, but it's not gortex either. If you ski in heavy, wet conditions often this jacket may not be the one for you unfortunately.

Malin, I guess it depends on how you like your clothes to fit. I agree that a lot of Salomon clothes run big, in fact, the matching pants to this jacket in a size medium is huge / baggy /too long on me. However, the size large in the jacket worked well because it made it longer which is ideal for my tastes because the normal cut of the jacket is very traditional and thus a bit boxier/shorter on the torso: the length was more important the the width for me.
