Elios XCR Hiking Shoe - Men's

When the weather gets rough, smart day hikers lace up the tough, waterproof breathable Salomon Men's Elios XCR Hiking Shoe. The Gore-Tex XCR insert in this light hiker lets heat and moisture from your foot escape while blocking water infiltration from the outside for comfortable, happy feet. When rain makes the trail slippery, Salomon's aggressive Contragrip outsoles dig into the trail for 4x4 like traction. A gusseted tongue keeps small pebbles and rocks from working their way into the shoe, and a super cushy, padded ankle reduces blisters for when that “easy-moderate” day hike the guidebook promised turns out to be a ten-hour epic. Salomon even gave the Elios XCR hiking shoes an antimicrobial, breathable Ortholite liner to keep your feet happy and smell-free—a tall order after a ten-mile hike.

Bottom Line: Log some wet weather miles in the Salomon Elios XCR Hiking shoes.

If only these fit better

I really wish I could have kept these shoes. I put in about 20 miles of hiking through Zion, Arches, and the Wasatch Mountains, but, invariably, the top lace mount would dig into my foot—-a discomfort I wasn't willing to endure.

This is a solid, lightweight shoe that performed very well in nearly all aspects (traction, puddles, etc.) except for the foot digging and a propensity for pinky-toe blisters.

I ultimately returned them and went with the Columbia Pagora Hiking Shoe...thanks BackCountry for a seamless exchange!

I've had multiple Salomon hiking boots in the past and always wore a size 11. Do the hiking shoes run true to size? I often fall between size 10.5---11 depending on themake of shoe.

I love these. Nice stiff sole and yet very comfortable. Make sure to knock them off before getting back in the car as theyll cake up easily. Not sure about the waterproofing yet, but they definitely keep my feet cooler than my old hiking boots.

Disappointing quality

By:
March 16, 2009

I purchased these shoes to replace a pair of Salomon Elios LTR shoes that I'd had for over 2 years and while they are every bit as comfortable as my old shoe, the quality of this shoe is not nearly as good. After less than one month of moderate wearing the stiching in the rear heal came away.
Hats off the Backcountry who sent out a replacement pair of shoes straight away. Hopefully these will stand the test of time...we'll see.

RK,Renegade II - Gortex (waterproof), 3/4 synthetic shank (stiffness), all leather and metal eyelets (durability and abrasion resistance). Elios - Gortex XCR (waterproof and more breathable), 12.6 ounces (vs 2 lb 2 oz. lighter), mesh uppers (cooler). If you want something for day hikes that can handle a little weight on your back the Lowa will work perfectly. If you want something you can do day hikes with, prefer lighter weight gear, and want something you can wear in town, the Salmon is the way to go. Mahalo, Sumo

great for wet, rocky terrain

By:
April 22, 2009

I just finished a 4 day trek on the Inca Trail in Peru and these shoes were perfectly suited for the task. Great traction on the rocky and sometimes wet terrain and plenty of comfort and support while I carried a 25 lb pack roughly 8 miles/day.

I can't comment on longevity yet but they show no signs of deterioration after my first thrashing.
