Great Rod

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have used an older version of this Sage rod in numerous locations and to catch a variety of fish. The six weight rod has been very versatile for me in my transition from southwest Colorado trout fishing to catching some of the smaller salmon species in Alaska. The tip action is very quick and responsive to mending and various types of casting. It handles feisty fish very well and has a strong backbone for fish in current and making long casts. I have been hesitant to use my 6 weight rod to catch anything bigger than a red (Sockeye) or pink (Humpy) salmon in Alaska. These fish tend to be under ten pounds and that makes the fight just right on the 6-weight.
An aggressive silver (Coho) weighing over fifteen pounds may be too much for the 6-weight so I tend to use my 8-weight for the silvers.
The only negative I have are Sage gear tends to be a little expensive, but the warranties are worth paying the extra money for a high quality piece of gear.

Premium rod at a great price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Sage makes some of the best rods and this one is no different. Performance and feel were not sacrificed to bring an affordable rod to the market. The casting accuracy is on point and this rod packs a punch. Nothing bad to say about this one!
