Swamp Cooler Dog Vest

Your dog will appreciate the cooling effect of the Ruffwear Swamp Cooler Dog Vest during hot hikes. Just soak this vest with water, secure around your dog, and as the water evaporates away from the three-layer material, the cooling effect of the evaporation will help your pooch beat the heat. And for dogs with dark-colored fur, the light color of the Swamp Cooler will be particularly helpful when the sun is beating down.

Cooled the Golden Retriever!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
xl

Helped out a ton when we went to Eastern Wash in record temps (115)! Obviously we were also super careful about hydrating Sunny, keeping him in the shade, going out early, etc. But we noticed a remarkable lack of panting with our golden when wearing his vest. We tried to skip it the day we left since were mostly in the car but our vehicle is older (AC can't keep up) so I soaked the vest in a gas station sink and voila! Problem solved! How long it stays wet really depends. If you rewet with a water bottle, flip the vest up from the back and do the underside. Way better was when I soaked it in the river or our cooler of water. Will admit he wasn't a huge fan of wearing it but I mean who normally puts clothes on their golden - think he just wasn't used to it. Minimal rolling so overall he tolerated it well. HIGHLY recommend for a big furry dog in hot weather. Sunny is 95 lbs and the vest is generously sized for him.

Bulldog approved

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
Medium

My wife and I love hiking and camping with our Olde English Bulldogge. Because of his breed we always have to be conscious about keeping him cool. This a great product to help with that. We can definitely tell a difference when he?s wearing it. Less panting and more energetic. It does dry out on hot days quickly so having extra water is something that you?ll need to plan for. Overall it?s a great tool to help with keeping your dog cool.

Best Purchase For my Pup

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
M

My (almost) 7yo, 85# dark-fur pup got really sensitive to heat/ sun the last year. I was v. concerned about his slow down (got full xrays to rule out joint issues) but cooling vest completely turned that around! We're in SoCal with Valley temps, so cautious about when we take them out in the summer, but the Swamp Cooler brought him back to his old self. Yes, the water does evaporate - but I thought about as much as it should. SIZING : he was on the top cusp of Medium so I ordered a Medium as recommended. Large would've been way too big. He's a lean/ tall #85. It should be noted he HATES wearing things and freezes up motionless for several minutes until persuaded with treats to start moving/ forgets he's wearing something (harness/ backpack, etc). Once he understood the purpose of this cooling vest, he has no problem wearing it at all.
