Instant short leash when you need it, no leash when you don't.

When you're in a roam-free area, clip the Ruffwear Quick Draw Dog Leash to your dog's collar, wrap it around the collar, and let your pup carry his own leash. As soon as you come to a leash-required zone, simply pull the grab-tab and release the short restraining leash. The Quick Draw Dog Leash has a quick-grab tab that's easy to spot, and the hook-and-loop fastener makes it an instant release. The length of this Rufffwear leash runs between 19 and 28 inches, depending on the neck adjustment.

awesome solution for good dogs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I work outdoors and bring my dog Doc along monitoring conservation property. Sometimes we're deep within intact woods for miles and he's great off leash. However, occasionally we stumble along roadsides so I'd have to drag a leash around never knowing when it would happen. Enter the quick draw collar - no longer did I have to worry about lugging around his leash.

It's also great for hiking - he can be off leash and when we see someone we have an instant leash.

It's GREAT if you have a well-behaving dog that's good off leash and don't want to lug around a leash.

It's not very long and not something you'd want to be using to "walk" your dog for a prolonged time - but when you need to grab hold for a short period it's perfect.

Exactly what I needed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Whenever I run with my dog, she's off leash, but on the way to/from a run, and if we run into any trouble, I like to have a leash handy. I was always wishing I had a comfortable way for her to wear her leash, so I didn't have to carry it. Then I found this! It's perfect!

I also use this hiking in areas that require leashes... If anyone says anything about her being off-leash, instant leash!

This "leash"is nice for situations where you don't really need a leash, but want to have something to wrangle the pups into and out of the car after a hike or trip to the park, vet, etc. You can use the leash to take them in, then wrap it around their neck so you don't have to carry it. If you want to have them off leash most of the time, this is great, because they carry their own leash and you don't have to. On the other hand, actually using this as a leash for more than about 2 minutes is a pain in the butt; it's really short and doesn't have much to hold real grip or loop or anything. I've definitely been in situations where I wanted a real leash, but only had this. Bottom line is, your mileage will vary, depending on how you use a leash.

Exactly what I needed.

I have two labs, which I hike with every weekend. These leashes are great because if I need my dogs to stay extremely close I just grab the tab and done. It is nice not to have to sling leashes around my shoulder or bag. Good quality construction, the same as all the other great Ruffwear products, and fits both my 70lb 3year old lab and my 6month old 50lb lab. Good buy for sure.

Too small.

Won't fit larger dogs.

How large is too large? My parents have a Belgian Sheepdog I want to get this collar for.

Responded on

Not sure about Belgian Sheepdogs, but I have a (relatively small) husky, and it just barely fits around his neck. (That's with his winter coat - once he sheds for the summer, it'll probably fit much easier.
