My dog likes it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It seems like a quality product and so far it's doing the job of keeping my german wire-hair warm while outside. One thing that I like about it over the ruff wear climate changer jacket, is that it doesn't dig into his upper arm which also gives him more freedom of movement. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it would be nice if the backend wouldn't flop around as much. However, this isn't a deal breaker for me.

Great quality, just didn't fit my dogs

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The craftsmanship is sturdy, clearly high quality. The inside fleece is very soft and tightly woven. The outer shell is soft and clearly durable. I love the green color and the reflecting piping is bright and attractive. Although both my dogs wear a RuffWear size XL float coat, the RuffWearsize XL K-9 overcoat just doesn't fit them right. I've tried adjusting the straps but it just looks awkward on them. I'm returning them both, but not because of the quality. Would recommend the XL for a dog larger than my 135# Rottweiler.

Kept warm, but can snag

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Good coat, feels durable, fit well. I got a size large for a deep chested, 65lb boxer and have plenty of room to loosen, but only a little more room too tighten. Coat hangs out and inch or so over his tail. I'd tell you what he measures, but he's sleeping. Anyway, the coat kept him warm enough for the one trip we've had him out in since we got the coat, maybe mid 20's and deep snow, no wind. The warning I want to give is that it is possible for a dog to get hung up in this coat. It happened to "B." This has never happened before even when his old coat only had a belly strap. Fortunately, since the side adjustment straps are stretchy (even with the coat on fairly snug) he was able to back out and escape. Unfortunately it was a little bit before we realized he wasn't wear his coat anymore and had to skin back up to look for it. We found it wrapped around a stump that had been hidden under the snow. So user beware. It can snag, but your dog might be able to escape so at least you will only be left looking for you coat and not your dog and coat... Not sure if I will return it or keep it.

Impressive coat

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I'm once again really impressed with the quality of Ruff Wear products. This coat not only looks great but functions as advertised. My dog's movement was not inhibited in anyway, but she was able to stay warm as the temperatures dropped on my most recent backpacking trip in the Catskills.

Good Vest for Early Mornings in the Snow

This vest fits quite well on my German Retriever when we are in the mountains and walking early in the morning, at night, or in deep snow. I like how the vest protects her chest against branches etc while running through deep snow covered fields. Certainly this is no substitute for a retriever chest protector but, I only use this when it's super frigid and its worth every penny in those certain occurrences. 4 stars because it does not allow for me to use her harness with the vest, a small opening at the top for her harness' dring would make it a 5 star product.

Nice review.
Perhaps a tailor or a shoe repair can modify the coat till they come up with a solution. Keep in mind a hole right through .Would allow snow or rain ti get inside. Trapping it between dog and coat.
