Ruffwear made the Doubleback Dog Collar for your German Shepherd or other large, strong best friend of the canine variety. Ruffwear took its inspiration from a rock climbing harness to create this super burly dog collar: Tubular webbing and high-strength aluminum hardware won't break, and you can doubleback the webbing, just as you can on your harness, so you know it'll hold your huge dog. You can micro-adjust the fit of this collar for your furry buddy's comfort.

Bottom Line: Your leash or arm will break before this dog collar does.

Got this collar for my rock climbing friend's dog, He loved it! has a medium large size dog said it fit perfect. I took a look at it. This collar is super adjustable, can make it any where from a medium up to a large collar. Sturdy metal parts.

Runs in the nylon

By:
July 2, 2011

I got this collar because my dog pulls hard and can snap open the plastic buckle collars. After only a week, I started to see runs in the nylon just like the previous reviewer, "dig," described (see his photo as well--that's exactly what mine looks like now). This happens when my dog itches her neck and her claws, though properly cut, catch the material of the collar. Since the fabric is thin, it gets runs easily. A definite disappointment. I expected better quality materials from Ruffwear.

isn't this called a leash? i thought the collar was the piece

isn't this called a leash? i thought the collar was the piece that goes around your dog's neck...this, being the leash, is what clips on to the collar...right?

This is indeed a collar and not a leash - it's just super long because it double backs through the clip.

If you look not really that hard at the picture, you'll see the collar part in the upper left. It's kind of both. What is pictured above is indeed a leash. The loop in the upper left is for your hand, the carabiner clip is to hook on a collar. Judging by the price, if you purchased this you would get a collar not a leash. My guess is that the picture is matched up with the wrong item.

Utter Rubbish.

Our pup put a series of runs in the nylon in this collar after less than 24 hours of wearing it. This is getting returned, and we're going back to the cheapie from the local pet store. This is hugely disappointing.

My dog is always scratching his neck. I hear the chain part of his collar going all the time. I can only imagine what he would do to something this light duty. Love the way the buckles look, but must be made in Cheaper.

I'm not anything more than a consumer looking for good quality products for my dog in this case, so I am not defending nor attacking anyone.
For the life of me, I cannot see how when properly put on a dogs neck, anything can happen as described here. How can "runs" appear from wearing the collar? I can see it happen if there are more dogs than one playing with each other, as dogs tend to nip at ears and collars of the dogs they are play fighting with, (exactly as the May 5, 2010 reviewer describes). Correctly fit to the dog, just about any collar should perform without problems. Wearing the collar less than 24 hours it just sort of dissolved? Wow. I hope it doesn't happen to mine.
It's a great thing Backcountry has such a wonderful return policy isn't it?

Looks sharp... on a black or grey dog!

By:
January 25, 2011

I bought the collar and leash, thinking that the pink would be a bit darker than it is... turns out it does not match well with our tan-coloured pooch. Plus, he is a "he" and my husband does not think pink is his colour. Luckily, we just started fostering a beautiful black dog and this collar is perfect! It is a bit difficult to tighten, but otherwise it looks real sharp, and that is why I purchased it in the first place!

Great collar!

My wife and I are always on the go with the dog. Camping, beach, running around town... Last time we were at the beach with Hugo (our King Charles Cavalier Spaniel) the clip spring in his leash got sand in it and it wouldn't close anymore. Our friends had the same thing happen to their leash. We ended up getting the Doubleback leash with the carabiner clip and it's great in sand, dirt, and mud. The only problem was it wouldn't fit on the D-ring of his collar. We recently got him the matching Doubleback collar and it fits great. It's not too bulky and heavy and it's not hard to adjust. The material seems to be holding up well. Thanks Ruffwear!

Good High Quality Collar

By:
May 5, 2010

I've had this collar on my dog for the past few months and it's worked out great. The only issue is when he wrestles with my parent's 8 month old Newfoundland, the Newf grabs onto this putting a few small runs in the collar.

Like it, hard to get on and off

By:
July 7, 2010

We originally got this collar for the pooch because he stretches so many out (pulls on his leash a ton). While it is great for not stretching, it is a pain to get on and off a squirming dog because you have to double back and attach the tail of the collar back to itself. For a wiggler, that's a lot of patience they may not have. We ended up getting another collar - but will use this on occasion.
