Tired of your dog bolting and tearing your arm off every time a squirrel comes into view? The Ruffwear Chain Reaction Collar can help. With three-quarters webbing and one-quarter cinching chain, this collar cinches around your dog's neck to provide audible on-leash correction but, unlike many other cinching collars, the Chain Reaction has a distinct cinch limit so it can't get harmfully tight. Some dogs just need a little reminder to pull in the reigns, and this adjustable collar is a responsible way to deliver the message.
- Integrated, limited-cinch steel chain offers audible correction for controlled leash walking
- Tubelok webbing is thick, strong, and designed to withstand the use and abuse of a canine
- V-ring leash attachment is made of a single piece of anodized aluminum for strength and durability
- Quick-Ring attachment points allow you to easy add or remove dog tags for identification and keeps the tags away from the leash clip
- Silicone tag-silencer keeps ID tags from jingling
- Reflective trim improves the visibility of this collar (and your dog) at dusk, dawn, or in other low-light situations
- Item #RUF0100

Love this collar!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This is a great collar - superbly made - I can tell it will last and last. And, the tags don't clank together! Would recommend this to everyone!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
This is the best collar ever - works perfectly, highly recommended by dog trainer and vet. Looks great, great quality. Size was perfect - ordered a large in orange for Standard Poodle and a small in blue for a Shih Tzu - both fit perfectly, as they should. My Shih Tzu is 4 years old - and while he walks perfectly, he still seems to benefit from the collar. Our Poodle, is still a puppy at 15 months of age - and while he has been thru several stages of training, a dog trainer suggested this collar to be worn at all times - only replace by a normal chain collar or his lead when doing training exercises. I noticed an immediate change on neighborhood walks - using this collar pictured - it "looks" better than the regular chain choker - yet still serves the same purpose, albeit more gently. The styling and construction allows this collar to be his (and both dogs) "every day", permanent collar. I would highly recommend this collar - it is meant to be a gentle reminder when either dog decides they want to take a pull - and it functions as such.
Sturdy and Functional
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I bought this collar for my Skye Terrier and although there is absolutely nothing wrong with the collar itself, it did not work for my dog. He pulls regardless of how tight it cinches on him. A gentle leader worked better for me. All in all, the collar was made of really nice feeling material and will work for many other dogs, for sure!
Chain Reaction Collar
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Gifted to my brother, what he had to say:
"The burnt orange color is extremely attractive. The options of using the collar as a standard collar without the chain option gives the uses plenty of variety and options based on your needs. This collar has been through the ropes already and seems to have held up extremely well. Best of all the dog doesn't seemed to be bothered by it if he is just casually wearing it around the house."
Similar to other correction collars but!
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
(First off, I'd like to say thank you to Backcountry.com and Ruffwear for hand-selecting me to review this piece of gear for the benefit of the backcountry.com community.)
While the Ruffwear Chain Reaction Collar is similar to other correction collars, it has way more style! If you have an active dog, or a dog with a strong prey drive, you are familiar with correction collars. You likely have also had to explain why the metal correction collar is not a torture device or hurting your dog, because, let's face it, those pet store chains, look that way!
Fortunately, Ruffwear pairs style with function and keeps your dog's correction collar looking useful and humane. We recently backpacked out of Pine Creek near Bishop, which is a trail that starts at a pack station. We knew we would see plenty of mule and horses (and to our surprise a lama -- no joke!!). Donner, our German Shorthaired Pointer would be put to the test with the passing of stock on the trail so the timing of this collar was perfect! We paired it with the Roamer Leash so I could be hands free. The collar performed perfectly, giving me enough play to correct Donner when he tugged, eager to sniff his new lama friend. A feature that also separates the Ruffwear correction collar from others, is the thoughtful additional leash attachment that makes it a regular collar. This allows you to use one collar for training, correction and general use. It's attention to detail that makes Ruffwear such a great pet company!
