Description

Let your pup feel like he or she is part of the pack.

Your dog is stoked on day hikes, and even more stoked if she feels like she has a job to do. Throw some treats and a leash in the Ruffwear Approach Pack and let your pup carry her own pack. This Ruffwear pack also comes in handy when you and your dog are training for longer backpacking trips. The Approach's harness provides superior fitting, load-carrying stability, and improved support without excessive straps that might catch on twigs and bushes. Tough nylon fabric provides durability for years of use. Low-profile, streamlined saddlebags keep loads comfortably balanced so your pup can bound around without toppling over. This Ruffwear dog pack comes in three different sizes, so it'll fit securely on pint-sized pups or burly beasts.

Great Dog Packs!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Although there isn't a ton of room it help for the dogs to haul their own necessities. This absolutely did the trick and sizing right on. I thought this might bother most dogs but didn't affect mine. Great pack!

Suzy Q enjoys having a job to do on our climbing trip. Her Ruffwear approach pack can carry more than enough water for a whole day in the sun and enough room for som dry food or treats! The backpack takes your pup a little getting used too, Suzy still tries to shake her body or roll around with it on. Be prepared that anything that goes into the pack will get wet if there is a river near by and your dog likes to swim. Also, I suggest using the collapsable water bags / jugs inside of the dogs pack, this way, if your dog does roll around, a hard nalgene of water could hurt their back, but be careful that they dont get punctured.

Love It

These backpacks are great! I bought two in blue, size M for my 90 lb German shepherd dogs. There is a lot of room for adjustment upwards for larger dogs, but I wouldn't go down much in size. They are easy to adjust and seem comfortable. My dogs have never worn harnesses, we strapped on the Approach pack and took the dogs out, they hardly seemed to notice.
Balance is KEY. We put full water bottles in the pack of one dog and drank about 3/4 from one bottle, which created a terribly lopsided pack. Drink evenly from both sides!
The dogs were easily twice as tired as usual wearing the packs. I love bringing home happy, tired dogs after a nice hike :)

Love this!

We have a 7 month old female black lab, who's quite small. She weighs in at 45 lbs, girth of 26 in. After debating about sizes (she won't grow much more) we got a small, which still leaves us room in both directions on the straps. No chafing after several long hikes, and room for several days of food and water. Kelty was unsure at first, but now associates it with outside fun. She tears between trees, over logs, and the pack hasn't shown wear. This pack rocks! Can't wait to take it on the trails this summer.

Seems well made, but didn't fit my dog.

Measured around the rib cage as instructed. Small size was too small and Medium size was too large. Too little adjustment to get either size bag to fit my dog. Bag looks to be well made and was disappointed that it doesn't fit my dog.

Great fit

Fits great and surprisingly holds a lot of gear without being too bulky or heavy.

This K-9 pack is worth every penny! Great fit, durable, easy to spot, good storage. Got this pack for my German Shorthair and glad I did, takes off a few pounds if your counting and she doesnt seem to mind at all. I got a Med and it fits my dog great doesn't move around to much stays nice and secure while we are on the trails or zippin through foliage. While on th trail it also make your dog easy to spot if you let them venture ahead and explore. you won't be disappointed with this pack.

Beautiful dog! I have a husky-shepherd mix back home. I love her to death! Looks like she is enjoying the view as much as you are!

serious pack!

We needed a strong pack that would stand the abuse. We walk through rough terrain, often without any trails. Our dog Wooster (siberian husky, 1 year 8 months) has to cross streams with pack, climb rocks, push through snow in winter and tall grass in summer. Our hikes are 2 to 10 days long. Wooster not only carries his own food, he also helps to carry our food, too. We load about 11 lbs. At first the bag looked very small to me, but it is actually very spacious. Dog food for 7 days can be stored in one half, and the other is for our stuff :)

Wooster can't say if he is comfortable, but I think the Approach pack is one of the best I had seen on the net. He never had any bruises or sore spots. We are very happy with the pack so far!

Regarding the SIZE: we have size M.
Wooster weighs 52 lbs and is 25" tall. (He has long limbs and is thin, a sporty version of a husky). We have to shorten all the straps almost to the minimum. The bag fits well, but we also have place to grow.

serious pack!

My dog Arlo really seemed to like wearing his pack. Gave him a job to do!

She carried 10 pounds initially, probably 14 after she went swimming. During the 8 miles we hiked in, she easily doubled that, and was tired, but still spry enough the next day to do a 10 mile hike to the cirque of the towers, and rocked the hike back out the following day. For a 60 lb dog, this pack carried very nice on her. Just don't load it up with fine china ;+)

Great dog pack.

My dog loves this pack. It gives her a job on our hikes and doesn't slow her down at all.
She's 43 lbs and the med is a good fit when all the undercarriage straps are cinched all the way. She could probably go to a small but if she gets any bigger the med will be better.

Great dog pack.

YES!

Now my dog can pack himself in-and out. While he refused to move at all for the first hour of wearing it, he began to love it like it was his "job."
