Description

It's all there.

With a removable chamois liner, super-tough construction, and built-in stretch panels, the Royal Racing Matrix Short has everything you need for an epic day of lift-fed DH or freeride hijinks.

The synthetic fabric pulls moisture away from your skin to the surface of the fabric, where it evaporates quickly. Built-in stretch panels at the back of the short provide an unlimited range of motion, so you'll never feel the Matrix bind while you ride. The Matrix also features a removable chamois liner that takes the edge off long days in the saddle, and can be worn with other shorts if the Matrix is in the wash.

To ensure the perfect fit, Royal included hook-and-loop waist adjusters and belt loops. Front and rear zippered pockets take care of your valuables, while open hand pockets give you somewhere to put your hands while they aren't clinging to your bars. As a final touch, Royal bar-tacked all the areas of high stress, so you'll get years of wear from the Matrix.

The Royal Racing Matrix Short comes in sizes X-Small to XX-Large. It's available in two colors: Phantom Black/pewter and Dark Blue/royal blue.

Good shorts, but chamois size is off.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The Matrix short is light and very comfortable, but long enough and loose enough to ease my fears of looking like a XC rider.
I like these more than the Fox Ranger shorts. The Ranger shorts have more convenient pockets, but the Matrix feels much more durable while still being lightweight.
Two complaints, though. I wear 35-36 and the XL fits very well, but the chamois do not. The padding felt HUGE and there was no way I could consider riding in them with the way it folded up in the middle... not a pleasant thought.
Second, the waterproof media pocket is much too small. An iphone with a case does not fit. I only use it for a little cash and IDs, which are still a tight fit.
I enjoy riding in these shorts and they look great, but plan on your usual set of chamois.

(Sidenote- The print on these is similar but does not exactly match my black pinstripe Matrix jacket. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning.)

Nice Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Light weight and breath well. The pockets are in a nice place to access while riding. Length is what I like , down to knee. The inner short is removable and is ok. More of a fitted short. Good Value.

Great shorts

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So far these have been great shorts. They are nice and light weight material on the baggies and the liner is pretty comfy as well. Over all I'm pretty happy about these. Long enough, but not too freerideish. A very nice pair of shorts for not breaking the bank. Also i wear a 34 waist and the larges fit perfectly.
