Stop hating your skating.
There are plenty of skiers who don't want to end their skate session gasping for breath and puking on the side of the trail, but still want a boot that's responsive enough to be skied hard from time to time. The Rossignol X8 Skate Boot was made for the folks who are looking to have a decent amount of stiffness and power without the demanding requirements of a full-fledged race boot, and it delivers with a thermo-adjustable liner, soft-touch internal membrane, and Active Control heel support. These features all work with the Speed Lace Lock system to provide an extremely precise yet comfortable fit, ideal for a full day skate or quick post-work fitness laps.
The upper cuff replaces the carbon found in Rossi's highest-end boots with a plastic frame that's easier to ski without being a floppy pushover, and uses a more forgiving hook-and-loop ankle strap to keep your ankle in place without crushing it. Working alongside the fore- and aft-flex of the Mobile Cuff, this gives the X8 a forgiving flex without sacrificing the torsional stiffness that's so important for proper skating technique. The X8 is also designed to work with NNN bindings to allow a natural, efficient foot roll for smooth, easy skating.

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I am not much of an XC skier but these seem to be pretty good boots. They are comfortable and perform very well for what I am looking to do.
