S6 Ski

Rossignol brings back its beloved S6 Ski for the 2010-11 season with a slight and gradual U-Rocker, which drastically improves tip and tail floatation in the deep stuff while charging tree shots or landing switch off huge backcountry booters. With a wood core and stiffer tail, the S6 delivers easy turn initiation and stability as you rocket from the end of one face-deep turn to the next. Stomping cliffs and huge 3s become the norm between your giant, sultry S’s you carve down the whole mountain thanks to the S6’s traditional side cut and 21-meter turning radius [186cm]. The Jib Tip ramrods the S6 through powder and leftovers without snagging and sending you tumbling backwards at full speed, and just to make it that much sweeter, Rossignol made the S6’s core with wood harvested from a renewable tree farm to keep ensure winter comes back each year.

Bottom Line: Get better float, stability, and stomp-ability when you head to the mountain or out of the gates with the new S6 Ski.

good for park and pow

By:
February 25, 2011

I just got a pair of the 174 s6 jib. The continuous rocker is great for butters and wheelies in the park or pow. I am 5,9 and 135 and 15yrs old. I don't like to stop a lot so i charge. The 174 is great for me because I like to play around bit, but also go fast. I have the fks bindings on these and this set up inproves my skiing.

S6 review

6'1" 180 lbs, use a 186 cm S6. I love them. I wanted a powder ski that was soft enough to still ski the bumps and was quick through the trees. They maneuver so well through the powder that it is a joke and are nimble through the bumps. They are not a GS ski on the groomers however. I tried the K2 Sidestash which are firmer but not as nimble and quick in the powder (and trees). No complaints.

My default everything ski

By:
December 18, 2010

I have the 08-09 with the Caya Koopman graphic and even without the slight rocker that they have added they are EASILY one of the best I have even skied. They surf beautifully in the pow and are still fast edge to edge on the hard pack. I would love to try them with the rocker and see how they feel. but at the very least this years and built on a VERY strong foundation.

Great All Mountain Rockered Powder Ski

By: Backcountry.com Employee
September 8, 2010

Bottom Line: This is a great improvement over the Rossignol S6 and Steeze. Rossignol added slight continuous rocker to this ski for 2010/2011. They also made the ski slightly punchier in the tail. This ski floats better in powder than the last version, but it does struggle on groomers more than the old version as well.

Pros: Rocker was a welcome change for the S6 in 2011. The rocker on this ski is very slight, similar to the 2010 Volkl Gotama ski. This allows the ski to still maintain contact through its turn radius on groomers, while still adding the loose feeling of rocker in powder. The tail is slightly stiffer than in the older versions as well, so it does want to charge harder than before.

While rocker has seemed to be a somewhat niche market in the past, skis like the 2011 Rossignol S6 will help bring rocker to the masses. The S6 was always a great all-mountain powder ski, the 2011 version makes the S6 perform even better off piste, while still remaining a strong competitor everywhere else on the mountain.

Cons: The rocker that was added for 2011 made the skis on piste performance suffer. On groomed snow the ski basically feels like an older version S6 that hasn't been tuned in 2 years. But what do you expect when much less of the edge is actually in contact with the snow? In powder/crud however, the performance has been greatly improved.

Good all around charger

I had a chance to try these S6's out in the 186 length on a pretty solid powder day at Snowbird and really liked them. These are a great more traditionally cambered powder/all around ski(although they do have a very slight rocker). They are great in the powder and can still hold a solid edge on the groomers and do well in variable crud and on moguls. They would make a great ski for someone who only wants to get one ski and still be able to do everything from corduroy to the steep and deep. These skis definitely do not have the tightest turning radius and they love the fall line, they are also stiff enough that they are very stable at high speeds, encouraging you to charge hard and straight line a lot more. Overall I had a lot of fun on these skis and they would make a very versatile one-ski-quiver ski.

I'm 5'8" and about 155 and as a more aggressive skier the 186's were just right.

this ski does it all and lets you stay in control while rocking it. throw on a pair of fks's on it and have a great kit. the wood core does a great job keeping things poppy. perfect for pow, crud, or groomers.
