Beginner skiers, look elsewhere. The Rossignol Freeski2 180 XXL Ski Binding is not for the faint of heart. This binding's DIN starts at 8 and goes up to 18 for people who push their skis hard and can't afford to have them pre-release. Rossignol alpine bindings utilize a very short mounting zone, which provides strong lateral support, which allows the ski to follow more of its natural flex. The 180 XXL's heelpiece packs a huge range of elastic travel with automatic re-centering, which gives you more time to recover before it releases and makes it easier to get clipped back into the binding in deep powder and steep slopes, and the toe piece offers 180-degrees of releasable protection.

Bottom Line: Lock and load.

Great Bindings

This binding features the same toe piece as the Look/Rossignol Pivot/FKS 18 binding. It has a really wide AFD, which allows you to really transfer torsional power into the ski. The heel piece is not as small and low profile as the Pivot/FKS binding, nor does it feature the pivoting heel, but it does still have a very high elasticity, which means it allows you some time to recover before it absolutely releases. This might be bad if you fall alot and like your skis to come off, but if you charge hard you know that the last thing you want is your skis to pre-release. That is why this binding is awesome!

A note about the 120mm brake...even if your ski is fatter than 120mm underfoot, your shop can bend the brake to fit your ski.

How much can really be said about alpine ski bindings ? I'm sure it's all been said anyway. That is not going to stop me telling you that if you are in the market for a burly binding to match with your fat skis then these are as good as any. They have not let me down in 40 something days of going very fast and sometimes falling very fast. They look quite nice too.
