Dip into untracked backcountry lines on the BC 90 Positrack Ski. Rossignol threw you a wide shovel and an extended footprint to plow a stable path away from Lycra ridden resort groomers. Designed for breaking trail and floating a few steep turns through aspen glades, the BC 90 features air-channel wood core construction that throws open the gate to short trips across frozen lakes or weekend tours through the mountains. Ditch the wax and skins – the waxless Positrack base will give you enough traction to run up icy hills. Utilize the full-length binding retention plate to mount cable bindings or a light AT setup. Barebones winter mountaineering or casual, trail-busting tours are both within your grasp.

Bottom Line: Smell pine needles instead of spandex.

I am thinking of buying a used pair of Rossi BC-70's. They will be my first X-Country skis. I am 509/240 and the skis are 195's...they have Rottefella bindings all ready on board. Have done some trail skiing in Yosemite this year and love it...will they work???

AWESOME SKIS

By:
February 25, 2010

I GOT THESE FOR MY WIFE FOR GENERAL BACKCOUNTRY USE, TELEMARK AND TOURING. THIS SKI DOES IT ALL. DON'T EXPECT IT TO TRACK LIKE A TRACK SKI THOUGH IT DOES A GOOD JOB. SHE LOVES THE SKI ( 169 CM ) AND HAS MOUNTED VOILE 3-PIN WITH ROSSIGNOL'S TOP BACKCOUNTRY BOOT X-11. THESE TURN VERY WELL AND FLOAT IN MODERATELY DEEP POWDER WELL. SKIS ARE LIGHT AS WELL. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CROSS COUNTRY SKI THAT CAN BREAK TRAIL IN THE BACKCOUNTRY, ALLOW YOU TO TELEMARK AND UTILIZE GROOMED TRAILS THIS IS IT. AWESOME SKIS !

I've used Karhu Orions and other full-edge waxless skis with both leather boots and plastic boots for general exploring and some tele turning in the Sierra. However, I keep ripping the bindings out of Orions and other lighter skis -- probably due to the leverage from the size 12 plastic boots.
Question: are these cap skis stronger than the older designs? I like the option of using plastic or leather and so I'd really like to find some skis that won't rip out.

Great Touring Ski

By:
December 14, 2009

Just got my Rossi BC 90 mounted. I put an old three pin binding with a G3 heel plate. I am mostly using this ski for short ski tours with some tele turns. Went for a ski tour and the ski glided great and climbed up all the trails. Did a few tele turns with fresh snow and held up great. If you are looking for a great around ski that is wider then stranded touring ski this is the one.

I'm looking for a x-country ski, for mostly off groomed trails. Metal edges and wider than the typical touring ski. I'm 230 lbs, so I need something close to 200 cm. I found Alpina Discovery, but nobody has it in the longer sizes, and I have a pair that are about 4 years old and the bottoms are peeling off, so I wanted to try a different brand. any Ideas?

I recommend the 205 cm Madshus Glittertind. Side cut: 68-55-62. A metal-edged, wider BC ski which has accomplished retention of the near-classic length while staying on a diet & weighing in at 1890g/190 cm. Retails for: $199.95

Why dont you have the bases of your ski's re-laid, it's pretty cheap to have done, then you have the option of trying out some test ski's from any good dealer and still have your trusty 4 year olds to hack around in, asspecialy early and late season when you will most likely be rock hoping.

I'm looking for a backcountry boot for the Rossi BC-90 skiis

I'm looking for a backcountry boot for the Rossi BC-90 skiis that is as comfortable and versitile as my old Snowfields...

I don't want to buy plastic boots. Do you know of a boot out there that is great on track, breaking trail in deep snow, and has enough stiffness and control for cutting teles in the backcountry? Does anyone make such a boot anymore?????

The Fischer BCX675!!! Amazing boot. I have Karhu 10th Mountain Skis (now called the Madshus Eon), with Voile 3-pin/cable, and there is nothing that this setup cannot do. I can ski past the skinny touring skiers at the resort, climb with light-weight ease and quickness, carve tele turns with the best of them, and even carve aggressive parallel turns through small moguls. In the backcountry of the Adirondacks (my preferred playground) there is nowhere that this setup (plus a pair of BD Sabretooth Pro crampons) cannot take me.

I had leather boots which I used with these skis which i loved. I hated the idea of plastic boots. Last year, however the tongue ripped off one of the leathers. I tried to find more leather boots but nothing seemed rugged enough. so I bought Garmont excursions. I must say, these are awesome boots. They are as light and comfortable as leather boots but give much more control when it is needed. That said i miss my leather boots when i am sitting at home thinkin

Yes you could use a Rottefella Super Telemark or a Voile 3-Pin Cable Telemark Binding. I have seen both mounted.

Yeah, no problem. These would be good with either a 3-pin or XC-BC binding.
