Description

This Agent is no secret.

Rome designed the Agent Rocker Wide Snowboard to be more than a run-of-the-mill all-mountain board. The Agent Rocker is a stiff, aggressive board, made for the rider with skills. This is not a forgiving beginner deck, it's specifically designed for hauling ass, stomping big airs, and trenching long powerful turns. Equipped with Rome's MtnPop rocker-meets-camber profile and crafted with geometry tailored to fellas with big boots, this versatile board goes from the park, to the chutes beyond the ropes, and back to the groomers to lay out some high-speed Euro-carves, all the while eliminating your toe- and heel-drag woes forever.

The folks at Rome laid up the Agent Rocker with three zones of low-density wood with extended zones of poplar. This gives the Agent Rocker a stiff, powerful feel. They then added carbon Hot Rods at the tip and tail to stiffen them up a bit while leaving the soft flex between the bindings for added pop with a playful feel. Rome also added two additional mid-board contact points between off-set sidecuts for added high-speed edge control and to make the board feel shorter and more playful at low speed.

The Agent Rocker uses Rome's all-mountain MtnPop hybrid rocker. The board is rockered underfoot and between the bindings, while the nose and tail are positive camber for added pop, response, and edge control. The base is Rome's high-end Sinterspeed base, which absorbs large amounts of wax for several days of high-speed riding. The StraightTriax 30 laminate with 30 degree fibers are mellow enough to quickly adjust to changes in terrain and poppy enough to help boost you for bigger airs.

Great board.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my second Rome Agent Rocker Wide. I am on the 156cm, and weight 160lbs. and am about 6 feet tall. I broke my previous in March 2014, not because the board was defective, the break was due to a blunt impact. I spent a day on a Slash ATV Hub before I came back to this board, see my review of the Slash if you are interested as to why I did not keep it. As of now, Never Summer (Revolver and Proto) and Rome are my favorite board manufacturers.

The Rome is great board for my riding style. I consider myself an all mountain rider, which is somewhat superfluous to snowboarding, but none-the-less I do not spend all day in the park, but I will generally take about 5 runs through the park per day. This board really does it all, it holds up on 15"+ powder (we had some monster days in Colorado this year and I had no issues, however I should note I was on an older model for most of the season) days, the camber really keeps the nose above the powder. I've been riding this newer model at a-basin in more spring like conditions. The board does not get too chattery when taking aggressive runs through choppy snow, it has some chatter, which can compromise the rider, you just have to absorb it and stay low. Due to chatter, I really feel like this board is not as powerful as Rome advertises on their website. Try the Slash ATV Hub if you want a board that has very little chatter. The agent performs when riding switch, feels the same as if I am riding in my regular stance.

When riding park the board performs great. The board has nice pop, feels buttery when your sliding a box/rail and is buttery on the groomers as well. On booters the board performs well. In conclusion, I really have no quarrels with this board, it can get chattery, but if the board did not have this chatter, it would likely be less playful for freestyle riding.
