Waffle and coffee

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I really like these for a quick snack with my daily coffee. They are a sweet and savory waffle that balances out the acidity of the coffee. This brand of euro-style waffles has a sweet middle layer that is like the consistency of honey. That layer is really, really thin so it doesn't overbalance the savory flavor.

I would recommend the chocolate flavor in either this brand or the honey stinger brand, they are both better then the original flavor. I gave this box a 3 star rating because i prefer the chocolate.

When i munch on these i like to pretend i am in Europe, sitting at an outdoor cafe with my espresso and my waffle while i watch a bike race. Realistically when i'm sitting in my cubical , drinking drip coffee and working on my computer, but the waffle makes it a little better.

Nice alternative

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Good taste and nice alternative to the usual energy bar. I usually combine one with a gel mid-ride. An adequate amount of calories (150 compared to 200+ for some bars) that does not sit like a rock in your stomach. While a bar is easier to eat in bits along the way (unless the ride is an all out hammerfest, the Rip Van Waffels are best eaten completely at once. They are a bit crumbly and may not survive once you break into it. I will continue to add this to my routine.

Mmmm good stuff!

I saw these the other day at the store in West Valley and was eager to try them. A couple years ago I was eating the honey stinger waffles and thought those were good too. I picked up a box after reading some of the other reviews knowing that one would more than likely not be enough. Was I right! Currently living in the semi winter months there is still cold weather in the mornings. One of these "wafels" and a hot cup of joe really hits the spot before my 1 1/2 to 2 hour morning rides. On the label it tells you to cover your coffee w/ the wafel and let it soak up the steam which you definitely want to do. I've noticed that your best result should involve a spoon over the top of your coffee cup to support your wafel as to keep it from caving in and drowning in your coffee to mush. Once you notice it soften, flip it and let the other side absorb some steam and BOOM! you have a good treat! I probably steam it for more than you would if you're staring at it, because I let it do it's thing while I change and get my riding gear on and ready. It's really good by itself, but it is so much better if you get the inside caramel nice and gooey :)

A Tasty Underground Waffle

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

So, yeah. I like waffles. Who doesn't? I've been going on the Honey Stinger waffles that most cyclists originally turned me on to, but a few of my homies got me on these interestingly named natural waffles and I have to admit that I'm pretty impressed.

The initial wrapping is a little tough to open in a pinch, but once you get there things get pretty blissful. The waffle itself is pretty stable and doesn't break apart terribly easily. In breaking the waffle in two, there was a bit of a soft center like those crazy good energy waffles from MT but on a smaller scale. The taste is a good balance between cocoa and coffee while not being overly sugary and I did dip it in coffee with pretty good results.

I wish it left me slightly more filling at times and as an energy snack it does well in regular intervals but doesn't quite supply enough kapow taste and weight for those really hard days when you want to find a reason to keep going. The packaging has a nice color design though. I would definitely recommend this waffle to anyone looking for a bit more than the standard offers.

Just right.

Not too sweet, not too bland, and just the right texture. These are also appropriate for just about any occasion (i.e. at home, work, or out and about.) No going wrong here with these waffles.

Delicioso

There are 16 to a pack. They're similar to Honey Stingers but even softer and more delicious. I really like the packaging and tried one with a hot beverage as recommended - next level energy!!!!
