One for all.

Cycling enthusiasts will argue that you need multiple bikes in your quiver-a lightweight climber, a beefy pave bike, a criterium frame. Ridley begs to differ. And although Ridley would love if your garage paid homage to the latest and greatest from its diverse collection, if your budget, or significant other, has you limiting your purchases, the Damocles is the ideal one-quiver bike. And if you still don't believe us, take a look at the wealth of races it has won, from pave roads in Belgium to climbing stages in the Alps-it won't take too many podiums to make you a believer.

The Damocles is constructed from a series of individual tubes that are then joined together to form a complete frame. This method allows engineers to fine tune the layup for each tube as riding forces require. When the tubes are then connected, the result is a frame that features the ideal balance of lightness and durability. More importantly, the ride quality of the Damocles is stellar. Unlike many carbon frames which chatter and jump on rough roads, not to mention the reverberation of noise off the frames, the tubing of the Damocles forgives rough roads and chip-and-seal. In fact, it's so smooth and quiet, you may just wonder if it's some new breed of carbon fiber. It's not. It relies upon stellar engineering from a company that has had countless championship medals in its mere 18 years of existence.

Even though the Damocles is comfortable and forgiving enough to ride all day, that doesn't mean that it doesn't perform when under fire. The "Sharp Edge Design" ensures that the tube shapes and configuration create stiffness which reduces flex when power is applied. This makes it ideal for sprinting. The tapered head tube features an oversized bearing that has been lowered 1.5inches to further enhance the stiffness of the front end. The oversized down tube and bottom bracket lend to the stiffness of the frame. Joined with its ability to absorb chatter, the Damocles is a finely balances all-around machine.

A medium-sized Damocles weighs in at 1.2kg, just a shade above 2.5 lbs. The Damocles gives you everything that you want in a bike that saves you enough cash that upgrading your component group or wheelset won't mean cinching in your waistband.

The Ridley Damocles Road Bike Frame - 2012 is Matte White/Black and comes in six sizes from XX-Small to X-Large. Given its compact geometry, we strongly suggest that you focus on the virtual top tube length as you make a determination of the proper size. The frame comes with a painted-to-match Ridley 4ZA Damocles monocoque full carbon fiber fork and an FSA integrated headset. It requires a 31.6mm seatpost, an English bottom bracket, and a 34.9mm front derailleur.

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Ive been riding my Damocles for 5 years now. In that time I have had a love of this bike matched by no other that I have ever ridden. In my now 30 yrs of riding with include 13 yrs racing as a cat 2, and 7 yrs working in the bike industry, I have a big collection of various bikes which started with steel, going to allunium and titanium, and various generations of carbon. Im going to state simply that this bike snob who has tried a lot of bikes, loves this one. The combination of comfort, stability, agility, and superior handling makes this bike a A+. There are now others that are newer, lighter, and more fancy but bang for your buck you cant beat this machine. Btw, I am no longer associated with the bike industry in any way and this is a Gods honest opinion. MB
