Description

Built for racing, built for you.

You covet the Damocles, but your chromosome lottery numbers didn’t predispose you to fitting on Ridley’s tough-as-nails race machine. Fortunately, Ridley teamed up with Bikefitting.com to design the Asteria Shimano Ultegra/105 Complete Bike to fit women precisely, so you won’t have to suffer in a fundamentally uncomfortable position just to ride your dream bike.

To guarantee a ride-quality on par with its older brother, the Asteria frame has been constructed from a blend of Ridley's 30- and 24-ton, high modulus carbon fiber. This creates the perfect balance between stiffness and comfort by only offering more compliant materials in calculated positions throughout the frame. Along the same lines, the Asteria's oversized tubing reduces chattering road vibration, while the oversized head and down tube junctures provide nimble handling and accelerations. Like the Damocles, the Asteria is built as an all-rounder that excels through multiple disciplines without sacrificing strength for weight savings like a majority of specialty climbing frames do. Instead, Ridley formed the tubes with its proprietary Sharp Edge tube construction. This layup system ensures a heightened level of security for the frame in the event of impact -- particularly side impacts that have a tendency to flatten tubing.

Now, you're probably wondering what makes a women's specific bike specific to women? In relation to the frame, the answer is simple -- geometry. The Asteria is designed to accommodate female proportions, and to do this, it features a shorter top tube and seat tube. This makes the tug-of-war ratio between ideal reach and stand-over a non-issue, as the front and rear triangles have been modified to deliver a nearly-identical riding experience as the Damocles through descents, sprints, and climbs. To maintain characteristic similarity, the Asteria has a tightened head tube angle that's been countered with a broader seat tube angle. This creates a wheel base that minimally longer than the Damocles, but this also comes with its own comfort advantage on long pulls and descents.

And while geometry is essential to an anatomic comfort and fit, Ridley knows that the touch points and components play an equally vital role. That's why the Asteria comes equipped with a 4ZA Stratos Women's saddle and narrower Deda RHM01 handlebars. To ride more terrain options, the build also comes equipped with a compact, 50/34t Shimano 105 crankset and a 12/25t Shimano 105 cassette. To control shifting and braking, Ridley included Ultegra shifters and calipers. Rounding off the operation is an Ultegra rear derailleur and a 105 front derailleur. The entire bike rolls on the omnipresent Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels, cased in the durable, Continental Ultra Sport tires.

The Ridley Asteria Shimano Ultegra/105 Complete Bike is available in the color White/silver and in four sizes from XX-Small to Medium.
