Get your aspiring shredder started off right by giving him the Ride Kids' Lowride Snowboard. This entry-level board's mellow flex and deep sidecut make learning to turn easier. The sidecut and flex combined with a directional shape shorten the snowboarding learning curve, which means your little rug rat will be up turning and having fun before you know it. The Lowride also features durable ABS sidewalls and an easy-to-repair extruded base, so when he outgrows it, you can hand this board down to his little brother.

Bottom Line: Make turning easier.

Good ride, disappointing quality

Got this for my 5 year old son and we got our first day out last weekend. Soft flex and centered stance helped him feel comfortable and edge effectively, but the board is cheaply made which is a disappointment for a reputable company like Ride. Topsheet began 'sliver shedding' right away (long thin strips coming off near the sidewall), and the nose delammed about 4" across and 2" deep. Granted he is a beginner and took a few spills, but certainly nothing to warrant this level of quality issue.
We'll take 'er up some more, but this is likely going to be returned before the warranty is out.

I don't know my terminology when reading about this board.

I don't know my terminology when reading about this board. My son currently has a board with "capped" edges and I'm looking to get him a new board with "slant" edges. I'm interested in the Ride Junior Lowride. Does this board have slant edges?

What you're talking about is not the edge itself but the sidewall. capped sidewall construction is when the top layer of the snowboard (topsheet) covers the sidewalls. What you're son is seeking is called sandwich construction. Most snowboards are built with sandwich construction anymore - it's lighter and cheaper to repair. Ride has what's called "Cleave Edge" where the sidewall is slanted at about 45 degrees. This particular model doesn't have Cleve Edge.
