    Great first vest

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: L/XL

I haven't tried any others, so I don't have a thorough comparison. But the vest works well for my novice purposes. There are boundless pockets. Pockets for leader, pockets for fly box, pockets for tippet, a small smart phone and sunglasses. Unforunately, neither of the inner pockets fit my phone and sunglasses perfectly, but that's fine. I can get them in there good enough.
The mesh is cool and tolerable on a hot day.
The pockets are accessible, even the zippered open with one hand usually.
I don't like the fit. I guess the vest needs to go over waders, but this thing is HUGE! A L/XL seems like it'd fit the biggest boy with room for his man-boobs to breathe.

    Good Starter's Vest

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

As everyone moves towards the hip packs, chest packs and any besides the traditional vest - this is a great vest to get into for those just starting out.

I have been fly-fishing for about a year now and dying to get more into it, but just find myself limited on time to get out there at the moment. This vest has a ton of pockets, it's fairly breathable and is pretty decent overall.

    - Ton of utility pockets

    - Cheap

    - Mesh construction makes it fairly light

    - Odd fit when pockets are being utilized with fly boxes and gear - tends to have a far forward leaning fit

    - Zippers can be difficult to open and access with only one hand

    - bulky when pockets are full

    Good Starter's Vest

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The price is what this vest has going for it, and it does have a number of features for what you pay. I've been using the vest for a little over 2 years, and so far - the buckles in the front have broken, the net holder in the back has pulled out, and one of the zippers on the front pockets has broken. I'd say I got my moneys worth. If you're buying it as your first vest and you're not sure if you like fly fishing or not - go ahead. If you love the sport already and fish a lot, you might want to go with something a little higher quality.

    Best for the price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

If you're like me and don't want to spend a bundle to get out and fish this is perfect. All the function of a nicer vest, maybe not as slick looking but you'll have more money to stuff it with beers!

    Sooo Happy with this vest.

I'm someone who prefers good quality products and therefor was very hesitant to purchase this vest. However, after making the purchase I am extremely satisfied. For starters, the collar is made of a very comfortable material which doesn't irritate the skin after hundreds of iffy casts :). Also, There seems to be pockets for everything; on the inside of the jacket is a zip-shut large pocket and a pocket that fits my iPhone perfectly - even with a strap to hold that sucker in. As for the pockets on the outside of the vest, I've got one for my tippet, pliers, GPS, Floatant, Fly box and a couple extra. The mesh dry quickly, allows for a nice breeze and is surprisingly strong. Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone - if you get it, I'm sure you will be extremely happy. Hope this helps!! Happy Fishing!
