Why We Like The Red Wing Heritage Chukka Boot

The Red Wing Heritage Chukka Boot is a solid style originally made for those who worked indoors on heavy machinery and assembly lines. Their rugged leather upper will only ripen over time and is supported by triple-stitched seams for better longevity. Their softer Atlas tread sole was originally designed for work that required a lot of bending and lifting but will suit today's more casual boot wearers' style.

Substantial Shoes

Bought these November 2023- it’s now almost March 2023 and they are getting semi- broken in. I’ve used half a tub of the leather cream and I’ve got to say these are some fine boots. They work for business casual or out in the dirt. These things are so well built I fully expect them to last 20 years minimum. Substantial they are!

Another beautiful pair of red wings

The closest thing Red Wing has to a "shoe" at the moment. Decided to give them a shot. Fit is true to size (so, half a size up from my iron rangers) but they are a tad narrow. If they came in E3 I would at least try them on. E2 seems like they'll be OK though. Folks you need to properly size your shoes. Yes they are very stiff and need breaking in but I can easily tolerate a full day in them with out blisters, bleeding or pain. If they are so bad you can't wear them you need a different size. Traditional leather footbed so don't expect cushy comfort right out of the box. The wedge outsole is also harder than I expected. They'll be firm at first. No complaints with comfort though, this is expected from their traditional, rugged construction. I simply love the look of them. They have a unique cut and last shape. The briar leather is gorgeous as well. Thanks RW for another great shoe. I expect they'll last for years and years, and I hope you release some shoes (not boots) in the future. Maybe oxfords. You've got a customer for life if you keep making them this way.

Lots of compliments

I have walked the city and all over creation with these chukkas - for 15 years! No word of a lie. The soles have held up until I would say year 12 - but I just kept on going in them. The leather still looks good. No stitching has come undone, or any other facet to the boot, other than the soles need to be replaced (which I plan on doing). I also plan on buying another pair. Here's what I've learned: 1.) The sales people are very helpful BUT they misguided me when it came to the size. I usually wear a 12-13 EE size sneaker (depending on the brand) and they had me buy an 11.5 D. They advised that it would stretch quite a bit, but they have always just felt a touch too snug (even after 15 years!). 2.) My true size is 12EE in these boots - although I could totally see how a 12D may stretch to the perfect width, BUT I would strongly suggest bringing 2 pairs of your favorite socks when you try on. Only because my thick winter socks make that 12D really fill in (and they still fit fine), but I can't help but want the wider boot. 3.) The insoles really never "molded" to my foot and to this day are pretty much as unchanged as when I bought them. 4.) The insoles lack arch support and feel flat. 5.) Adding an insole makes your normal size entirely too small to even put your foot into, so if you want to remedy the flat stock insole, you have to size up up up. And I am not sure if you end up with clown size shoes by doing so. 6.) I would suggest finding arch support that is not an entire insole insert, in other words, just the an arch support insert. Drug stores carry something called 'moleskin' and its a pretty good DIY for this, but I would spend a good amount of time making sure you cut the moleskin correctly. At the end of the day, I wish Redwing would rething the sole in this one because it really is a phenomenal chukka - and I receive a lot of compliments on them over the years. I will be buying a second pair, and resoling my OG's. Here's to supporting American Made Products!

Old world value

I’ve only been wearing the Work Chukka for a few days, but I can tell it’s going to be a great shoe for me. I’m 70 years old and retired and dealing with rheumatoid arthritis which has already caused a little bone deterioration in my feet. I bought the Weekend Chukka in store a few weeks ago, and I like it, too, but the Work Chukka is a sturdier, more substantial build. I use the thin leather Red Wing insert and a medium weight merino wool sock. The feel is like a more substantial, sturdy sneaker because of the cushioned sole. I can tell this is going to be excellent footwear for me, and the Weekend Chukka will be an excellent summer shoe. I wear an 11 in the Weekender and an 11.5 EE in the Work version because I had read it runs narrow. Love them both.

Best Red Wing Boot I've ever owned

I suspect they are phasing out there boots as I had to go to 2 RW stores to find my size, but worth the effort. These started off as my travel shoe to Italy after a 2 week break in. It exceeded my expectations as a versatile casual/dressy/walking/light work boot. I get more compliments on these boots versus any shoe I've worn. I prefer these over my Iron Rangers and Moc Toe. I'll likely pick up other colors now. P.S. I tried on the Weekender chukka version and I'm glad I got the Work version.

Craftsmanship and fit is spot on!

These are the third pair of heritage series boots I own. These fit similar to my Iron Rangers. I wear a 11.5 iron ranger, 12 in moc toe, 11.5 work chukka. I typically buy a 13 in sneakers. I love how quick these felt broken in. I am impressed with the quality, look and fit. This is what you would expect coming out of Minnesota!

Best Boots I've owned

These are my go to pair of boots. I've had one pair for 9 years and got a second pair 2 years ago to wear outside of work. They do take a week or two of wear to get them broken in. I just put them on the boot dryer to get them warm and then put some of the red wing conditioner on them and wore them around the house for a week or two and they were good to go.

Sad experience

I'm a little unhappy with Red Wings, I have always bought in store and are always satisfied with the quality and the product overall, this time I decided to shop online and got this damaged product 😥
