Why We Like The Iron Ranger 6in Boot

The Iron Ranger Boots have been protecting the feet of miners for more than a century, so we feel good about them protecting ours, too. Oil-tanned leather comprises the upper for added protection, while the leather insole conforms to our foot's natural shape to become more comfortable over time. A steel shank increases both stability and support for long stretches on our feet, and Vibram's 430 mini-lug sole won't crack and lose durability after a few years like all-rubber soles sometimes do.

Good, high quality, American boot but.....

These boots are absolutely beautiful and well made. Of course them being made by Americans in American shops is the cherry on top and a key reason that I bought them. However, one downside is the speed hooks. Something didn't quite line up on these and some of the hooks freely turn and are cutting the tongue. I will have to follow up for repair but these are an otherwise amazing boot that I hope will last a long time.

huge fan of Red Wing Boots

The first Red Wing Boots I bought was the 4418 in 2014. They felt great and extremely comfortable for steal toes. after I bought 2 pairs of Iron rangers and Ice Cutters and oxfords. The black iron rangers I bought in 2015 are my daily walkers finally need to get resoled. The oxblood iron rangers are equally as great in comfort, I just wear the black ones more. The ice cutters I wear when I snowblower or when I'm walking around in a blizzard and the oxfords when I have to wear a suit. great product.

Suprisingly durable

A great quality boot. The surprising part of the copper boots was how easy it was to rub away scratches using your fingers/cloth and the mink oil which is a must. Was quick to break in after daily use. I would recommend getting properly fitted with the 3D scanner and try using the leather insoles. The soles are pretty tough and grip enough for most surfaces. It is a harder sole, unlike softer rubbers, these will tend to slip on polished concrete. These had decent traction in snow. The laces are rough, so it holds well without double knotting. Some minor wear/fraying in particular locations. The length works well for me at size 6.5. The back of the quick hooks are are scratching tongue, which was remedied by using felt tape. After using mink oil it'll turn a much dark brown, which is very nice. Loving the boots so far after daily use over 4 months.

so glad i waited

these were my first pair of iron rangers and i know that a correctly fitted pair of boots can become beloved pieces of gear that are not forgotten soon. i bought another redwing pair sometime ago off the internet and after disregarding many warnings i bought my usual size of 12 and found that those warnings were justified, the boots were to big. i kept the boots, put in some heel inserts and was happy but, i wanted that glove like fit i got from basic training so after deciding on the 8085’s copper rough and tough i went to our redwing store and had the salesman measure my foot and was rather surprised that he could fit me in a 10.5, a full size and a half down. i got the boots and the break in period tested my patience with holding it together but hold it together i did and im paid off with a pair of boots that are complimented on their great looks every time i wear them out as i enjoy the comfort i knew would come from these iconic pieces of americana.1

Very dissatisfied with this boot, ESPECIALLY for $

I purchased this boot wanting a great quality made in USA boot that I could shine up and wear for business etc. At first the boot looked great and after a break in period felt good too. In just a matter of around 6 months it started to develop cracks even with me using Huber boot oil recommended for them and Kiwi black liquid shine wax. I have hunting boots that have been mistreated and rode hard and put up wet that still look great. But these boots have now went beyond cracks but are peeling. A Red Wing boot that has been babied and not even put to work looks worse than my work boots or hunting boots that are years and years and one pair over 15 years older. For the price they cost this is very unsatisfactory. Though they appear to be put together well they are not holding up and uglied out too quick. I've been caring for boots since I was a kid and this is the worst pair to hold up and the most expensive pair aside from a pair of hiking boots. I have 25 year old leather dress shoes that look like the day I bought them. Those hiking boots are 30 years old now and are in great shape. The other boot that can be seen in the pic is older than these boots and is worn in a steel factory etc plus gets some time in the farm mud and then hosed off with high pressure. These boots should do better. Maybe I have a pair of duds but if they are all like this I would stay away.

Comfy and boujee!

When you wear this shoe, anyone who compliments… just knows- it’s a brand and pretty iconic… I had mine for 7 years while working in the trades- unfortunately i neglected mine to a point of no return and ended up replacing them with new ones. Break in was not really that bad and once they’re broken in- they fit perfectly. Just take care of the leather with your brushing and conditioner. These can last for years!!!!! A+ in quality and craftsmanship- will buy again and again..

Outstanding Boot - Love the Hawthorne Muleskinner

I love the leather on these boots. It's high quality and beautiful and wears very well without any real upkeep or maintenance. My only complaint is the break-in around the collar. The way the very back of the collar hits my legs, it's rubbing and chaffing against my socks leaving painful horizontal marks on the back of my lower calf. I bought another pair in Copper Rough & Tough and don't have this issue at all (have worn another pair in amber harness for 20 years without this issue too). I think it's because the muleskinner leather is not as stiff so it doesn't hold a round "leg shape" like the stiffer copper leather. I hope in time it will break in to hold a rounder shape against my leg instead of laying so horizontal and cutting/rubbing across the back of my lower calf. For the price, nothing compares to the Iron Ranger. It's a fantastic boot that you can have and rebuild for many years if not decades. Sure you can spend twice the money and find even better boots out there, but short of custom handmade boots, Iron Rangers are some of the best I've ever worn.

Great boots 2nd review

Bought my first pair Dec 2023. They had two nails coming into the foot bed. I returned them and the 2nd pair were way worse The hook eyelets were not installed properly. Leaving jagged edges protruding that were gouging the tongue of the boot and would cut your finger. I returned them for my third pair. I was told someone would look through the inventory and hand select a pair to send me. Those boots arrived with no flaws and are perfect. They’re Golden
