Cool Look, Great Optics, Interesting Fit
I'm going through an interesting aviator style phase and gave a shot at the Ray-Ban Cats 5000 Sunglasses - Polarized. First off, the frame style was great and felt very durable. The lens optics gave some of the better clarity out there, especially when looking underwater was involved.
So why the 3 stars? The fit. And I don't mean comfort either because even though they lacked nose pads, the feel was pretty nice.
I have a medium to large style face and found out real quick that these lenses are not terribly wide or high. I compared them to the old school brand with a recent resurgence, iSki (whose Phantom is a perfect aviator fit for me), and found that the Phantoms had a much bigger lens height and width. The Cat 5000s definitely looked funny on me-with-the-larger-face, but on a small/medium to small face, they will fit for sure.
Top Line Optics, For Smaller Faces
The Ray-Ban Cats 5000 Sunglasses - Polarized was to be my polarized version of the I Ski Phantom sunglasses and it was not to be.
Don't get me wrong, the lens technology used in these are top notch and the frame style is pretty bulletproof. I would say though that a medium sized face would be at the top of the size range for these. Smaller faces will definitely adhere to the Ray-Ban Cats 5000 Sunglasses - Polarized better and if you're a Large sized face stay away.
