    Love 'Em

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

They take a while to break in, but it's well worth the minor discomfort for untold years of bliss for your feet. The double-layer midsole is a worthy upgrade over the 301. If you're on the fence, size up -- I typically wear a 10.5 sneaker and went XL, definitely the right decision.

Mildly disappointed, but still a fan!

    • Size Bought: L for sz 9.5 mens

For many years I had three types of shoes in my minimalist quiver: Keen low-top hikers, Hush Puppy moccasins and Rainbow 302 double layer leathers sandals (shoe sz 9.5 and the L fits perfectly). I am the guy you will see hiking in Rainbows on all but the gnarliest types of terrain and longboarding in them as well. I have tried other types of sandals like Chaco’s, but just they just don’t fit my arch right. Once a pair of Rainbows is broken in (a week or two of light use) they are incredibly comfortable and offer all the agility, traction and arch support I need. The double layer conforms to my foot so well that I use friction to keep my foot and hardly ever have to rely on the strap. It is like having custom orthotics! I trust my endeavors to these phenomenally comfortable and rugged pieces of footwear.
However, out of 6+ pairs I have had in the last 10 years (with 300+ days of use per year) I have had a couple where one strap pulled out completely clean (conveniently one happened while traversing a field of razor sharp limestone in Honduras). It was early in their life and neither the top or bottom layer was worn through so I sent them in on warranty. Rainbow informed me that the sandals were 'water damaged'€™ and refused to replace them. They did do a sloppy repair that did not last and charged me $7 to get them back in the mail. Great shoes but a deceptive guarantee. What sandals are not made to get wet?

At the end of the day I will continue to buy Rainbow double layers because they are just so dang comfy. Admittedly, I am using/abusing these shoes beyond their intended purpose. However, I really wish that they would honor (or clarify) their guarantee. Additionally, they tout their sandals to be '€˜triple glued' with a proprietary formula, but because I have had several pairs with straps that pulled out clean I question its efficacy. Maybe someone at Rainbow will read this review and perhaps they will design a Chaco-like shoe that would be built around this amazing double layer (or maybe even triple layer?) footbed. It would be the perfect marriage of custom fit and next level performance.

Lastly, if you are a serious Rainbow fan and find yourself in the San Clemente, CA area don'€™t miss the chance to visit their outlet, meet the team and stock up on your favorite styles at a discount!

    Unbeatable comfort

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've had three pairs of these sandals over the course of the last five years. In the summer, I wear them nearly every day, and they only continue to get more comfortable. They're lightweight and the footbed is incredible. They only take a couple days to break in, and the comfort is absolutely unrivaled. There is a reason so many people hold them in such high regard. If you're looking for more than just a convenience store sandal, look no further!

Too much $ for an okay sandal

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'd finally broken down and gotten a pair of Rainbows after years of folks telling me just how comfortable they were. For at least a month they were anything but. First day of "breaking them in" the straps rubbed the skin off the top of my foot. It left visible scarring for months. Still uncomfortable I tried immersing them in H20 other tricks ppl recommended for this sandal. The thing is I don't think I should pay $50+ for a sandal to give me skin lacerations and be unbearable to walk in for a good month. That's ridiculous. It's sandal. It's supposed to be comfortable! Well after they were broken in, and I've had these for a year now, they are STILL not my most comfortable flip flop - my Chacos are. No break in time. Same price. Just as durable.

    Best sandals on the market.

This is my third pair in ten years. I love how they quickly mold to your feet, and the footbed is smooth and soft leather. I prefer leather footbeds because they last longer and tend to be more comfortable once they are broken in. The lifetime warranty is great as well if they ever break rainbow will replace them.

    great once broken in

they take some time to break in. but once you do, theyre great flippies. I wear mine most of the year.

Each pair, like clockwork, last me about three years. After that, I put a hole in the outer hard part of the sole and into the padding part (foam). After that, I retire them. The hole is always in the same place, so thats my (everyday Im) shuffle that is doing it. Definitely not Rainbow's fault that I walk weird.

    great once broken in

This is my third pair of Rainbows. Rainbow guarantees their sandals from falling apart until the rubber is worn through on the bottom, and after wearing them for 2 years I can see why. These flip-flops actually get more comfortable the more you wear them in as they conform to your feet! They hold up really well, and look damn good. What more can you ask?

I've had the 301's before, for two seasons a pice, and upon getting these 302's I can immediately feel how much thicker and more comfortable the sole is. Looking forward to wearing these for another two seasons too!

Sizing tip: I'm a 10.5 and right between the L and XL on pretty much all sandals. I prefer to size-up and although they're a little clunky to start off when they're still stiff once they break in there's no issue and I don't feel like my foot is always sliding off the back like I do on the L's which hurts my heel.

    Well made, slightly narrow

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I'm usually an 11.5 or 12 depending on the brand, so went with the XL.

For the first month, they were unbearable, but I stuck with them because I've heard good things. Coming from a pair of Reef Arch 1's, these are definitely narrower. Even though I've been wearing these off an on for a while, they still rub under the straps if I wear them for more than an hour or so.

2 Year Update: They fit like a glove. The leather has cracked in places, but the straps are still solid. Even though the break-in period blows, it's worth it in the end.

    Great Sandals

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I bought these with a recommendation from a friend. Upon wearing the sandals out of the bag, the straps and soles were stiff, given that they were new. They did hurt in between the toes for the first couples days. But anyone who has owned a pair of Rainbows, will stand by it, that they are the comfiest flip flops known to man. I'll have to agree, I've worn them for about a month, and with some time they have broken in and now feel amazing. They still look new and and the materials holds up real well. Solid summer sandals!
