    First class bike travel.

Throw caution to the wind once you're at the trailhead, but not on the drive over. Stow your bikes safely in the bed of your truck to and from the trails with the Race Face Tailgate Pad. The durable PVC it's made out of is pretty tough to destroy, so you can feel comfortable leaving your babies in its care for the drive. Plus, it features plush padding and hook-and-loop closures to keep your bikes from moving around or hitting each other when you take a corner a little hotter than intended. A micro-brushed lining protects your tailgate from bumps and scratches, and a flap keeps your gate lever accessible in case you need to open it up.

    • Tailgate pad protects bikes and vehicles during transport
    • Extra padding prevents bikes from hitting one another
    • Straps secure bikes in-place
    • Lining shields tailgate from bike damage

    Great pad

This is just an all around great pad that has all the features you need. It has the straps to keep your bike straight when driving on a rough road. It has the little side walls to keep the end bikes on the pad. If you have a truck and bike, you definitely should have a tailgate pad. It will make your life a lot easier.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I own a 2015 Ram Laramie EcoDiesel and the XL pad depicted below is just amazing. It effectively does it's job. I took my bikes roundtrip from Chicago to southern Maine without any issues. I had the truck over 90 mph at times and the bikes were ultra secure. As others have stated, the fit is not perfect due to the shape of the Ram tailgate but it is easily worked around. The bikes were held very securely, without any scratching or marring and the padding at the fork along with the padded channels for the frame are just absolutely excellent. They keep the bikes separated and this pad just does it's job without fuss. Lastly, the microfiber did not scratch my paint at all which has lead me to leave this on as a cool truck accessory while locked to the truck bed for security.

      thick and juicy

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

love how thick the padding is on top, holds bikes in very stable, down tube straps work well. inner ribs are pointless. awesome truck fashion accessory. My truck now looks thick and juicy full of whoopdys on the back.

      Good product and well built........

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

.......but doesn't fit 04-08 F150 very well if you want easy access to the tailgate latch. If installed properly, tailgate latch is well above the access panel. Seems like it is built more for the newer model trucks which have a wider top profile on the tailgate. Like the concept and seems well built to last a long time, just doesn't fit my truck.

      Advanced Pad

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pad definitely has the most thought out design of all that I have seen. As noted in the comments the L/XL does not have the slots on the outside to hold your fork in place, but in that place it does still have a solid thick pad to keep your precious forks super safe. Inside it does have the slots to hold your frame, which does an incredible job keeping things still. The velcro straps are great for peace of mind on longer drives.

The fact that this pad is so similarly priced to the more simple, feature-less options is pretty impressive to me. Lot's of designing and sewing has gone into it, and my bike is grateful.

I put this on my 2016 Ram 1500. The Ram has a stupidly thick tailgate, no pad sits perfectly on it as a result (thanks Ram!)... but this worked just as well as the others I tried, so I picked it based on how well the slots hold the bikes in place. These days it seems like the average bike is a good $5k, so $130 is quite a bargain to protect up to $30k of bike per ride!

      Vinny,
Does the flap location on this pad allow use of your backup camera? I just bought a 2014 Ram 1500 and am trying to figure out which brand pad to get since I really don't want to lose that camera feature and the pad will be on the truck at all times. Thanks for the info!

Stef, that is a great question. The flap is exactly where the camera is so theoretically it should help, but you'd have to find a way to pin it up out of the way to be effective. I have been meaning to experiment with this, I'll try to do so soon to let you know. The flap could not be in a more perfect location though so I'm optimistic once I find a way to keep it open I'll be in business. I'm considering just removing the flap entirely, but don't want to compromise the great protection the pad offers my tailgate.

On another note, I had the pad loaded up with 6 bikes this weekend and that solidified my stoke on my decision! the channels in the padding held all 6 bikes in close proximity without moving or hitting each other at all. I have a bench seat up front so it's very nice to be able to shuttle 6 people in a way that's super safe for both bikes and riders.

      ATTENTION:

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

ONLY SMALL/MEDIUM PAD HAS OUTER AND INNER RAISED PADDING TO SECURE FORK.
LARGE/XL ONLY HAVE INNER RAISED PADS

This is a very good point thanks Matt! To add to it, the L/XL DOES have a raised pad for your fork, but it does not have the slots in it (shown in the picture of the Tacoma here) to hold the forks in place. Instead it is just a solid raised pad to hit your stanchion. So it still protects your fork very well, just doesn't hold it in place. I have used mine a few times now and it seems to hold my bike in very well regardless.

      Keep Your Bike Safe

This is a sweet pickup pad with a few little surprises. The blocks on the back are great for keeping bikes separated and the straps hold them down on bumpy fire roads. I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a great pickup pad.

      Best Option Out There

I have been really pleased with my Truck Pad. I use it on a 2010 Tundra. If I don't use the straps the bikes still stay in place, even on crazy shuttle roads (you can remove the straps too). The straps that wrap around the tail gate are a little long but you can trim those. Super great pad, very pleased.

      Best I've seen

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I did a lot of research before buying this because I hate that these simple pads cost upwards of $100. I was using a thick blanket with good results, but I hated how the bike could slide or tip or bounce. I felt better about the money when the Race Face pad arrived, largely because of how much attention to detail. Plus the square pads on the front and the back of the pad totally hold the bike in place with no tipping of sliding. I purchased the size small for my Gen II Tacoma and it fits perfectly, although it can be difficult to get the straps around the bottom of the tailgate.

The pad is covered dense Cordura Nylon, with soft, non-scratch stuff on the inside. Plus the Race Face logo is white embroidery. I think the biggest flaw with this tailgate pad is that it's so nice that it's very likely to get lifted. It would be nice if there was some means to secure it or make it less easy to steal.

      Best Tailgate pad out there

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Picked up one of these for my Tacoma and it's like they made it specially for the truck. It fits the tailgate perfectly in width and length. The channels for holing down tubes and stanchions works great. Also it's made of a durable canvas type material. Pads I've seen in the past are made more of a fake leathery material that can rub the forks pretty bad. Time will tell if this will do the same but so far so good.
