SilTarps are Life-Savers!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have both the Siltarp2 and Siltarp3, both in olive green. They squish down to about the size of a softball and weigh practically nothing. They are perfect for canoe camping when packing space and weight are at a premium. I suspend the Siltarp3 several feet above my tent in nice weather so I can go without the rain fly entirely and enjoy a fresh breeze without stray branches or pine needles landing on the tent. It extends far enough around the tent to protect gear that's left outside. The second tarp is a luxury to span over the cooking space or for a play / "dining room" area. They've both stood up to moderate rains nicely. Be very careful not to stretch them too hard or the fibers will break. The edges are reinforced, which is a bonus and protects the rest of the tarp. Still, I have stretched mine out from pulling them too tightly. The shape makes them highly flexible so you can put one end up / one corner or end down to control wind and rain. Highly recommend. I've used them for 3 summers now, and they're permanently packed in my "Go-Bag."

Best big backpacking tarp

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love my new Siltarp 3. It's really big for one person, plenty of room to keep all your gear dry. First you need to seal the seams with a good silicon seam sealer. I used Sil-Net, 2 tubes (1.7ozs). You can buy it on Ebay. The quality and craftsmanship is excellent. This tarp has a lifetime guarantee.
