When you need unmatched warmth and comfort in the coldest conditions, reach for the Rab Neutrino Plus Down Jacket. Ten ounces of super-warm 800-fill hydrophobic down are stuffed into this technical piece, which uses a box baffle construction for no cold spots. Hook-and-look cuffs and a drawcord hem keep out drafts and keep you warmer, and the hood is also filled with down for even more insulation.

Rab endowed the Neutrino plus with a shell made of Pertex Endurance fabric with a DWR treatment, which gives the jacket excellent weather resistance and durability. For storage and comfort, Rab added two handwarmer pockets, a high-capacity internal mesh pocket, and a small internal security pocket. The combination of fabrics and down help make the jacket extremely packable, and a stuff sack in included with the purchase of the jacket.

Super warm

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs large

Probably one of the warmest jackets I have had the pleasure of wearing. It was great for low aerobic activities. I tended to overheat when sledding with my kids. I am a fairly stocky guy and this jacket was roomy for me in an XXL. It definitely has a more generous cut over the endurance model. This jacket would be ideal if
1. the zipper were on the normal side
2. Had a chest pocket (either internal or external)
3. Had zippered pit vents to be able to control the heat

Don't get me wrong, the jacket is awesome. I wound up going with the Arcteryx Macai. I did like the color of the neutrino better as well as the warmth, but the Macai had the chest pocket and gore tex shell.

I am going to return or exchange this jacket but wanted to give size feedback and some general info. This jacket is HUGE. I'm 6', 160 lbs, 41" chest and wear a large in jackets. When I tried this on, I thought I was sent an XL by mistake; no, I got the large I ordered. And yes, I know you want to layer under a jacket like this, but I put on my 2007 Mountain Hardwear Phantom down jacket (size L) under this and I still have room to spare for half the clothes in my closet :)

General: Construction looks good, contrasting inside fabric color is odd, waterproof zippers are unnecessary, main zipper is operated LH which is odd, is that a UK thing?

Rab neutrino plus

275g of top quality down makes this toasty warm, how warm ? It was 9F and a cold wind in Michigan last week, I was just wearing a thin cotton white business shirt...never felt remotely cold. This coat maybe too warm for normal conditions.

The outside easily withstood wind and snow, never tested in heavy rain though.

2 front pockets are large and well placed, warm for hands. Inside there is a security pocket and a mesh pocket. The hood is fixed and warm. Size wise the jacket comes up big, I am 5ft 11, 170 lbs and have a medium...maybe a small might have been better. Possibly 1/2 a size larger than normal, It is worth checking the size carefully. Jacket comes with a stuff sack, size of a small down sleeping bag, not big but not small.

Front zip is ykk waterproof type which I find harder to connect than the normal ykk zips.

Overall quality is what you would expect from rab, my sleeping bag is 25 years old ( and slept in for approx 9 months) and my down pullover is about 10 years. Both look virtually new !

I expect this to last well over 10 years.

Overall extremely happy with this jacket, I bought it for warmth and it certainly is !

Warm jacket, but fits very large

I never got to test this jacket outdoors, but I did stand outside in 35 degree weather with nothing but a t-shirt on. Despite having only a cotton tee on, this thing kept me pretty warm and essentially blocked out all wind. I was extremely happy with the performance of this jacket at a first glance.

That being said, this thing is HUGE! I'm 5'8" and 130 lbs and I felt like I was wearing a large jacket even though I ordered a SMALL. The torso runs long - I understand that this is beneficial for increasing core warmth, but this came down a full two inches past my pant crotch. I also felt like the arms were way to baggy close to the shoulders. All in all, I felt like I was wearing something two sizes too big and trying to layer underneath (baselayer, microfleece, softshell) did not eliminate that feeling.

Maybe if I had ordered an XSMALL, it would have been okay, but Rab doesn't sell that size. Too bad, it seemed like a great jacket. On a side note, the "regular" Rab Neutrino Endurance Down Jacket fit just fine in a SMALL, but I returned it for other reasons.

I'd disagree, I'm between a small and medium and always prefer to size down rather than up. That said, I still had to size up to a medium. This jacket is meant to be a belay parka that you throw on over other alpine or deep winter layers so it is cut bit looser. The main reason I personally sized up just has to do with my more developed backside than most dudes making the hem too tight. Still as a medium it fits perfect over a base layer, pata cap 4 hoody and an arc atom lt...a likely active combo for deep winter where I intend to use this jacket. My larger than average climbing shoulders are the only reason the medium fits decent.

The size chart seems spot on to me with this jacket as far as chest size goes. The cut is more regular than athletic fitting to accommodate layers. For reference I'm 5'11" and 170lbs with a 38" chest climber's build. When I was 25lbs lighter and with a 36" chest two years ago a Small would have been perfect for me. Tim sounds like a very small guy so it makes sense that even a small would have swimming.
