    Expedition warmth with compressibility

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I was searching for a jacket to use for multi- day mountaineering and backcountry skiing. I needed a jacket I could throw on and instantly be warm when stopping after heavy exertion in extreme conditions. Yet it needed to be compressible enough to be practical packing. I chose this jacket over the MH Phantom, Patagonia Fitz Roy due to thickness and warmth of the jacket and overall better fit.

    Great Outdoors Coat

And why else would you need a coat but to be outside in the cold? I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan and wanted a coat that was extremely warm without having to walk around in a sleeping bag or constrict my movement. No, you wont be able to see your waist perfectly while wearing this coat as some have pointed out, but it is actually cut very well. The midsection is relatively fitted, and the shoulders are cut to allow for a range of whirling arm movements without looking boxy. I am 5'9 and 130 pounds and it is extremely rare that a coat fits so well while being long enough in the arms. I repeat, THIS HAS GREAT ARMS! It also dips to cover the butt. Not an inch of midriff will be exposed. A stiff-rimmed, insulated hood with great zippers and neck coverage round out the long list of features on this coat. As always, Backcountry was great with this order, allowing me to send my medium back for a small coat, which fit great.

    Neutrino Rab coat for women

This coat is VERY warm and feels light so you don't get overheated when you go from outside to inside and you can compress it into your bag. Only limitation is it does not look very fitted or feminine. I look like a puffy marshmellow in it, however it is functional.

    Awesome Jacket

Bought this for my wife for our trip to Iceland. I was a little annoyed at first because of the price tag compared to other jackets, but I bought her a bunch of different jackets and this one was by far her favorite. Out of the box you can tell this is a very high quality down coat and it has a lot of neat little features such as hood Velcro straps, wire brimmed hood which was great for blocking wind and snow, 2 way zipper, and plenty of pockets. Temps in Iceland ranged from low 20's to upper 30's but the wind was oppressive (It literally felt like you were going to get blown down the street). This jacket not only kept her warm, but also she did not complain at all about any cold spots with the wind. It also has great weather resistance, the pertex shell kept all the rain, sleet, and snow off the down. You really can't go wrong with this and its an item she reaches for constantly when going out in the cold.

Bought for my wife, she loves it

We shopped hard for a high-quality, warm down garment for my wife to wear to Everest base camp and on Kili. In fact, we ordered and tried about 10 different down coats, looking for the right balance of warmth and weight, features, length, etc. This one was just right - long in the back, and plenty of down in the body and hood, for someone who runs cold. Have been testing it in DC during the recent cold spells (teens, even single digits) and very happy so far. She is 5'4" and 120, bought a medium and can wear layers underneath.

    KEEPS MY WIFE HAPPY!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've owned the Men's version of the jacket for one year and got the women's version for the wifey this year.....now she has stop telling me how cold she is!! she loves it!

This jacket fits athletic/skinny people well, with great range of motion and comfort!

It insulates excellently!! Nice adjustable hood.

Sweet colors- the purple is awesome!

We stay warm in all conditions: from 50 down to 0 degrees

When worn with a t-shirt underneath, its comfortable at 60 degrees until you start producing heat, which will be contained and make you hot.

When layered with a long sleeve shirt, and a vest underneath, 10 degrees is comfortable.

The jacket is our primary piece during the cold months due to its awesome versatility.

It is holding up well to the wearing I've put it though, does not tear easily, tough material. (still soft to the touch!)

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

    Best coat ever

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large

I love this coat. I live in Michigan and lived thru last winter's never ending polar vortex. I bought this coat in a medium. I am 5'2 130 lbs. I like my coats a bit big and sometime am a large but this fit perfectly. I have broad swimmer shoulders and the arms to match. There is plenty of room in this coat. It is so warm. The pockets are great, big and warm. The hood is nice and warm! The inside lining is so soft and slippery, never getting stuck on your clothes. It is a big puffy coat. I am sure it makes me look big... but I don't care. It is awesome. Covers my butt too!

Oh and I have not lost any down either...

    Love it!

Yet another item that accompanied me on my 6 month adventure through South America this year! From Patagonia to the northern tip of the Andes in Peru this jacket kept me warm on the coldest days/nights. I used it on multi pitch climbs for belaying. I made the mistake of putting it on before a down climb and scraped it on a piece of really sharp granite and it ripped a tiny bit, patched it up and it's fine now. I also used it on several high altitude climbs in Bolivia (Huayna Potosi 6000+ m) it was perfect for that, not too hot and not too cold all the way at 6000 m. It was comfortable even with everything else that I had on, harness, ropes etc. I'm 5'3" and 110 lbs and I bought the small. I wouldn't have been able to layer underneath an extra small.

Staying warm in Hatun Machay, Peru!

    Love it!

    Great for Colorado Winters!

I've worn this every day for the past 5 months. Pros: It's super warm with a great, flattering, feminine fit. It's long enough in the back to cover your butt, so I was comfortable and warm wearing it with just leggings to and from work at the mountain. Cons: I skied in it a couple of times, but it's really too warm for me on the spicier runs, and none of my shells fit over it. Also, it spits out feathers like I've never seen. Because of the amount of down it's losing, I anticipate it being less warm a couple of winters from now. But overall, it's a staple for me several months out of the year.

      love it

i choose size s and my husband choose size M,true to size. we wore this jacket skiing , climb snow mountain and ice climbing. it always keep us warm. this down jacket is lightweight, effective in keeping us warm. we love it.

      Too cold?!? Too cold?!?

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I wore this jacket skiing at 10 F and had so many drafts coming in everywhere that I froze. Granted I didn't wear a shell but I was not warm at all. The arms are cut wide contributing to the Michelin look. Cute color (granite) and excellent feather "control" ie none poke out ever but overall a disappointing jacket. Unfortunate as I was expecting my warmest ski experience ever but this didn't deliver.

Phenomenal puff coat - best ever owned

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This is the best puff coat I have ever owned, hands down. And I'm not convinced I could ever top it. The price is reason for pause but it's worth every penny. Purchased this to wear on a 3 week winter float trip in the Grand Canyon. Daytime temps hovered around 35 degrees but nights were much colder, and that was when I was wearing the coat. After shivering all day on the river, it was such a treat to dig this coat out. I was never cold in camp, not one single time. Though we were never in the sunshine and some of the beaches were frozen solid. It was very likely below freezing every night. The jacket is very puffy so if you are hoping to avoid that - this is not the coat for you. I think it would keep you warm well into sub zero temps. It's big enough for layering, not a particularly form fitting coat. Hood fit well too. HIGHLY recommend. Also supremely lightweight and packs very, very small.

      TOASTY!

Love it. Mostly because it's so darn TOASTY! I usually stay warm when I'm moving and freeze my butt off when standing around. I've worn the Neutrino Endurance in -33 to 15 defree F temps, and it has kept me warm and therefore happy. In this jacket, I have responded to medical scenarios (lots of standing around), dug snow pits (shoveling and then lots of standing around), toured in the backcountry (wear it while transitioning from hiking/skinning up to skiing down), walked around town (it was just -22 here in the Jackson, WY area), and set up/broke down camp on backcountry courses (cold early mornings waiting for students and chilly evenings sitting around camp).

I love that it keeps me warm, yes. And, I love that it has a hood (that is moldable), zippered pockets, long arms, a slight "tail" in back to avoid the low-back draft, soft fleecy lining right at the chin, and Velcro-adjustable cuffs. I am 5'7" and 130 lbs, and the medium fits perfectly. I can put layers on underneath and also put the Neutrino on over my shell for those transitions in the backcountry when I don't want to take any layers off but DO want to put on more layers.
