Superior Weather Protection
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I have tested this bag in cold wet conditions, cold dry conditions and in windy conditions. The loft is superior, the craftsmanship is superb. The weight is reasonably light, and the rating is very conservative.
This bag in my opinion will perform easily down to 15 F and probably colder. I have used this bag in windy temps at 26F and there was no hint of the cold.
The well designed chest and head baffles are very well fitting and allow for a lot of wiggling without expelling much warm air from the interior of the bag.
Attention to detail is impressive. For example the interior of the hood is made using Pertex Endurance, the same as the exterior. This means that if the open hood is exposed, it will keep the down dry.
I tested this bag in a winter storm where the temp was 32F, freezing rain, snow and ice precipitation was falling directly on the bag. I left exposed for 1/2 hour and no moisture penetrated the down. I confirmed this by weighing the bag before and after exposure. The shell fabric is very effective in protecting the down from the elements.
If you spend a lot of time in cold wet environments and you need assurance you will sleep warm and dry, then this bag will not let you down. I will use mine with confidence on my winter trips.
