Rab’s Momentum Jacket employs 3-layer, waterproof, hyper-breathable eVent fabric to keep you at an optimal, comfortable temperature from trailhead to ridgeline and back. The Momentum takes up little space in you pack as a just-in-case option on summer hikes, and the element-shunning eVent fabric breathes as well as it protects. Pull up the wire-reinforced, stowable hood when the thunderheads threaten, and toss a few extra energy gels in the Momentum Jacket’s 2 zippered front pockets for a pick-me-up on the way back to the trailhead.

Bottom Line: Build Momentum.

Fantastic lightweight jacket

My first eVent item, and it's incredible, I'll never go back to anything else. Ultra waterproof, ultra breathable. The only slight issue I have is with the fit of the neck. It's a little too big, and rain can come in there if it's coming down hard. I guess this is probably to allow for neck layers underneath, but I think it's too much. The jacket is incredibly light weight but still feels very durable. I haven't had much chance to test out the durability, but it's holding up phenomenally so far. Sizing is good for me. I'm 5'8" 155 lbs and the medium fits extremely well with some layers under it. A little larger than I would like as purely a rain jacket in summer probably, but it will be fine.

Yup, Rab makes excellent helmet compatible hoods, and this jacket has one of 'em.

I know that as an event shell this should be good to go against

I know that as an event shell this should be good to go against most elements but the description also refers to summer excursions, If I layer, this thing should be good during the fall/winter correct? I am also 6'3 and 185 (lean/tall) would you recommend the L or XL (I like things form fitting but i also want to be able to have some layering options.)

Cheers

Alex, if you get the XL you should be able to layer with this shell. I am not sure of your torso height but the cut is belt level to me. Keep that in mind as to what type of activities you will be performing during the winter months. This will keep you dry and warm with a layer system in place.

Alex, greetings and thanks for your question. I think you are correct. The Momentum being 3 layer eVent, you should have ample weather protection. The Momentum is pretty lightweight, if you plan on layering appropriately based on what Fall/Winter conditions you could encounter you should be fine. The shell will only be providing weather protection, and you will be relying on your layering system for insulation. I would probably go XL in size based on your height and giving you room to layer. I hope this is helpful and enjoy your season.

Just sizing

Just got the medium. Crazy light, can't speak to the performance or durability yet.
I'm 5'7" and lean (stocky) and I can get a long sleeve thermal underwear top and a smartwool short sleeve under it, that's it before clothes start to bunch up around my armpits/upper arms. If you're planning on layering and you're not pretty slender get a size up. The sleeve length fits me fine, the coat is not long (mid-way to side pockets on slacks/jeans. Had hoped to use it for winter as well, may need to return it (it's such a nice coat it's hard to send it back). I cycle and am really thinking about it for the bike, except for lack of reflection. I'm not sure I'd call the hood stowable, more like roll-able up-able. There's nothing to keep it in place except the tension of the collar with the zipper up.
