Microlight Alpine Down Jacket - Women's

When a giant puffy is too much and a fleece isn’t enough, the Rab Women’s Microlight Alpine Down Jacket is juuuuust right. With baffled 750-fill goose down, this ultralight insulating layer is lighter and warmer than your standard fleece, and works under a shell or alone at the belay. You won’t notice the extra 12 ounces in your pack until they’re keeping you toasty on a ski-tour lunch stop or chilly night in camp.

  • Sizes are UK sizing--check sizing chart to see which size fits your measurements

Bottom Line: Compressible warmth for a paltry 12 ounces.

This jacket has style going for it, but not much else. It's considered an ultralight down sweater, but Rab shed important features to get to that weight. This jacket has 140g of down inside it, but because the baffles are so close, it's not nearly as warm as it could be. If they cut the number of baffles in half, they could put zippers on the pockets and make the jacket significantly warmer for the same weight. The hood is also terrible. The wire brim is awful, the hood doesn't adjust, and is just plain awkward. I replaced it with a First Ascent Downlight sweater and am super pleased. The Downlight has everything this jacket lacks, is the same weight, and I've worn it in temperatues 15* lower while still being comfortable. Bottom line, unless you're going for pure style, look elsewhere, please.

If you are looking for a purely fashionable piece for wearing around town this is an excellent jacket. The fit is awesome, the color is beautiful, and the style is really flattering. However, the pockets don't zip, so you lose things (or gather snow/sticks). Also, the hood enclosure is not effective and broke soon after I began using it. Even before it broke it didn't work. If you actually need it to function as a hood in inclement weather and/or while moving, it will not stay on or protect you from the blowing snow/ice.

Not what I needed

I purchased this jacket last week & it's got some good & bad. First you need a longer torso for this design to fit appropriately. I ordered a small & its snug in the chest, i'm a size B cup a little weird. It's also already shedding feathers. So basically this jacket will work if you have a long torso & no bigger than a B cup. Go up a size.

best winter jacket I have owned

This is the best jacket. I tried on the Siren which felt more boxy to me, as did the marmot equivalent. This one is super light and yet still keeps you cozy and warm.

found this on sale on geartrade.com. i agree with the last person to review who said you might need a longer torso and smaller boobs. that's me! not a terribly long torso, i'm only 5'3'', 120 lbs, but have an A cup, and the small size is absolutely perfect. this is an excellent mid-layer for montana winters. haven't noticed any feather shedding. another thing i love about the jacket is the slightly longer arms. also, its really soft and really light. only complaint: i suppose if i were to have paid over two hundred on this one, i would have wanted something with a better pocket selection. this one has two hand pockets (they're pretty deep, but not lined and have no zippers) and one roomie outer chest pockets that does zip. i like this company, they own on pata-gucci. good luck!
