Latok Salopettes - Men's

Chest deep, blower pow and demanding alpine conditions call for uncompromising ski clothing like the Rab Men’s Latok Salopettes. What the hell are salopettes? It’s brit-speak for ski pants, and in this case, super-badass, three-layer eVent ski pants. This bib-style pant’s waterproof breathable shell fabric ensures not a drop of moisture makes it inside, and full-length side zips dump heat and make for easy in-and-out. Rab also added a gusseted crotch and articulated knees for full range of motion and Keprotec instep reinforcements to hold up to crampons and ski edges.

Bottom Line: Whatever they’re called, they’ll keep you dry.

Great eVent bibs

By:

These bibs are great if you don't mind the lack of integrated gaiters. For me this is fine because I own some separate gaiters. The eVent material is very waterproof, breathable, and seems durable. Ice screws on my harness have not caused any rips or tears in the material. The fit is very comfortable, the straps do not seem to get in the way. I buy all of my shells a size larger than I need so that I can fit lots of layers underneath so for me (5' 7" 145 lbs) I like the large. The pockets are located at the top of the bib, which means that they will be inaccessible when you put on your jacket. The draw strings at the bottom of the pants prevent the hems from sagging below your boots. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with these (just get yourself some good gaiters to go with them). I had not heard of Rab before getting these bibs, but they make some great mountaineering/climbing oriented clothing. I liked these so much that I decided to get the Latok jacket as well.

These do not actually have gaiters, but an ankle hem draw string.

Description of pants says that they have gaiters - and they do not! If you ski in extreme conditions (which I do) you need gaiters... or else you get snow in your boots. So for me these pants were not what I had expected and was looking for.

I would have to completely agree with this. I purchased these looking for a bib that came with gaitors. I even went on the backcountry.com chat and asked for a recommendation for a bib that had gaitors. The "gear pro" recommended these and I took his advice and bought them.

The "gaitor" on these consists of a draw string that tightens at the bottom of the pant and doesn't help at all really. I live at Alta Ski Resort in Utah and ski everyday in the deep stuff and I can tell you from experience that this pant does not keep snow out like it is advertised.

Other than this bib not having gaitors; I'd say it's a great bib if you're not looking for functional gaitors. The eVent is great for breathability and waterproofness. I have yet to wash them once and I've been wearing them for a month now.. the eVent says to wash them a lot to maintain the breathability/waterproofness, but I have yet to be wet.

Haven't used heavily yet, but initial thoughts..

Just got these last week. Taken them to Alta, UT around 5 times since I've gotten them. Only groomers at the moment so can't say much about the breathability of the eVent material since not doing any work on the groomers. The eVent doesn't quite stop the wind like the Gore-Tex Pro Shell material, but definitely helped with the wind. Was really cold yesterday, -2 degrees fareinheit without wind chill at the top of Collins chair yesterday, and it was windy. The eVent did a good job stopping the wind, but like I mentioned, my Gore-Tex Pro Shell jacket did a better job.

I am 6'2'' and usually get all my pants in the size M. Which I did with this pant, it fits great, except around the crotch, it's a little tight. Could use an extra inch like the large has, just don't want to move up the waist sizing at all since this fits perfectly if not a little loose. So the crotch is kinda tight sitting at 6'2'', but other than that the fit is amazing. If the inseam was an inch longer I'd give it 5 stars for the price I was able to get them for.

Hoping these work out great for touring and hiking. Also the crampon protection on the insides of the bottom of the pant seem to be in prime locations; can take these ice climbing!
